Chapter 38

Chapter 38

Aust then, Garrett walked over with a stern expression and scolded his wife and daughter. You two really need to learn when to keep your moun How many times have I told you to watch what you say

If you can’t say anything nice, just keep quiet. Look at the mess you’ve made, Apologize to Ollie, now.”

Carol and Debbie’s faces turned red and pale by turns. They looked completely humiliated. But neither of them dared to argue anymore. They just lowered their heads and apologized to Olivia

I’m sorry, Ollie. I didn’t mean it like that. You know how I’ve always treated you. I just wasn’t thinking straight this time. Please forgive me, okay?said Carol

I’m sorry too, Ollie,Debbie said. I didn’t mean it either. Please don’t be mad.”

Olivia glanced over at her grandfather, who had just come back in through the back door, leaning on a cane. She didn’t want him to worry, so she stayed quiet and simply nodded to show she accepted the apology

Relieved, Carol and Debbie hurried off to the kitchen to help bring the dishes to the table

Bradley’s face darkened when he saw Dylan. But considering his granddaughter was now married to Dylan, and the Kaur family was still relying on the Wilson family’s support, he couldn’t say anything outright. He just kept his face cold, making no effort to be friendly

Bradley, how have you been feeling lately?Dylan greeted him politely

To be fair, Dylan was very wellmannered. He’d been raised with aristocratic etiquette since he was a kid and was considered Morgan’s pride and joy

All of his coldness and cruelty were directed solely at Olivia. In his eyes, she was a scheming, malicious woman who had repeatedly hurt Chloe, and

someone like her didn’t deserve respect

But when it came to her family, he kept up perfect manners and composure, leaving no room for anyone to criticize him

If Bradley didn’t know how poorly Dylan treated Oliviaand that he had a mistress on the sidejust judging by looks and manners, he probably would’ve liked Dylan a lot

But knowing how little Dylan cared for Olivia, Bradley just couldn’t bring himself to like him. To him, Dylan was just putting on an act

Bradley didn’t scold Dylan, but he didn’t respond to him eitherhe just walked straight to the dining table

Garrett quickly tried to smooth things over. My dad’s getting up there in age, and his hearing isn’t what it used to be. He probably didn’t hear you. Don’t take it personally.”

Dylan nodded, not bothered at all

Garrett continued, Have you had dinner yet? If not, join us. We usually eat pretty late, and we’re just about to start.”

Right on cue, Dylan’s stomach let out a loud growl, answering for him. He rubbed his nose, a little embarrassed. Work’s been hectic, I haven’t had time

to eat yet.”

Garrett chuckled. Then, perfect timing. Come eat with us.He arranged for Dylan to sit next to Olivia

Olivia went to the kitchen with Carol and the others to help bring out the dishes

Once all the dishes were served, Debbie quickly made a beeline for Olivia’s usual seat and plopped herself down

She didn’t even get comfortable before Bradley snapped, Did you forget where your own seat is? Go sit where you belong.”

Bradley might be old, but he wasn’t cluelesshe saw right through Debbie’s little scheme and was fuming inside, thinking it was downright

mbarrassing

Debbie had never tried to take Olivia’s seat before, but now that bylan was here, she couldn’t wait to make her move. Har intankar. daylightanyone could see what she was up to

Olivia said, It’s okay, Grandpa. Let Debs sit next to you, I don’t mind sitting somewhere else

Debble beamed. See, Grandpa? Even Ollie doesn’t mind, so don’t be mad at me. I just want to sit by you and help you with your food. Please let me okay

Bradley shot her a glare but didn’t say anything

Dylan frowned slightly, then got up and took the seat next to Olivia

The Kaur family’s dining table was huge, and with more than half the family not home, there were plenty of empty seats, so switching places was no trouble at all

Seeing Dylan move away, Debbie pouted in frustration

Carol smiled and waved her over. Debs, sweetie, leave your grandpa alone while he’s eating. Come sit by me.”

There was just one seat between Carol and Dylan, so if Debbie sat there, she’d still be pretty close to him

Debbie immediately scampered back to her mother’s side

Bradley’s face flushed with anger, and his appetite vanished. He thought, What a disgrace she is. Her intentions are so obviousdoes she really think no one can see through it? Throwing herself at her cousin’s husband? Does she have no shame at all?‘

But with Dylan present, he held his tongue and stewed in silence as he began to eat

Dylan took one bite and immediately knew the food was made by Olivia. He had started eating with his usual polished manners, but bite by bite, his composure slipped. Soon, he was practically wolfing it down, stuffing his mouth like he couldn’t get enough

Even after everyone else had put down their forks, he was still eating, nearly polishing off every dish on the table

When he finally put his fork down, he let out a satisfied burp. It had been a long time since he’d enjoyed a meal this much

His stomach had gotten used to Olivia’s cookingthese past couple of weeks, everything else tasted like cardboard. Tonight, he was finally satisfied

This trip was definitely worth it. Honestly, he’d come here partly in hopes of getting a taste of Olivia’s cooking

Though he’d never come to Kaur Manor with Olivia before, she had once mentionedtrying to make conversationthat every time she visited, she’d cook for her family

That night, Dylan stayed over. Carol arranged a guest room just for him, following Bradley’s instructionshe couldn’t stand the thought of his granddaughter sharing a room with her neglectful husband under this roof

In the middle of the night, Debbie quietly slipped out of her bedroom and paced in front of Dylan’s door for a long while. She raised her hand to knock several times, but always chickened out at the last second

Carol, who had woken up thirsty and come downstairs for some water, happened to catch the scene. She rushed over and dragged Debbie back to her

room

Once the door was shut, she jabbed a finger at her daughter’s temple and scolded harshly, What were you thinking?! It’s fine to act sweet in front of him and leave a good impression, but sneaking over to his room in the middle of the night

Is that something a decent girl would do? Aren’t you afraid he’ll think you’re loose?!”

Debbie looked aggrieved. I just wanted to make the most of this chance and, you know, seal the deal with him. Maybe once we’ve slept together, he’ll

start to like “

Carol snapped, Do you have any idea what kind of women he’s been around? You really think one night in bed is enough to win his heart? You’re too naive. You need to let him see what’s special about you firstlet him fall for who you really are

Then you can use physical intimacy to deepen the bond. That’s the right way. Doing it backwards just makes you look like a cheap floozy

And you dared to do this at home? If your grandpa finds out about this, he’ll be furious. And if word of this gets out, our whole family will never live it

down

I do want you to replace Olivia and marry Dylan, but you shouldn’t resort to shady tricks. If you sleep with him tonight, even if you do end up marrying into the Wilson family, you’ll never earn real respect.”

Debbie’s face burned with shame. She muttered, Okay, okay, I get it. Can you stop already, Mom? I’m so embarrassed I could die”
