Chapter 6
Although Rianne had locked her door, Ash opened it effortlessly.
“Get out. I don’t want to see you,” Rianne said, her eyes red–rimmed. “Locking a door means ‘stay out‘–don’t pick locks so casually!”
Ash smiled. “Sorry, bad habit from my days on the streets.”
“When I was homeless, I sometimes had to do unsavory things to fill my stomach,” he said as he
quietly sat down beside her, his voice tinged with unmistakable sadness.
“During those dark days, Sophia was the only one by my side. She’s the most important person in my
life.”
After a pause, Ash turned to look at Rianne, his dark eyes like bottomless pits. No one could truly see through him.
“Rie, I’m actually very grateful that your father took in both me and Sophia,” Ash said. “And I’m
willing to do anything for you.”
“But only if you can accept Sophia. She’s my sister, my only family in this world. I won’t allow anyone to hurt her, not even you.”
For a moment, Rianne almost believed him until he said those words “Sophia is my sister.”
Sister? Do siblings kiss like that?
He was nothing but a liar!
“So what you’re saying is, even after we’re married, Sophia will always come first?” Rianne asked
with a smile.
“Exactly,” Ash admitted without hesitation. “Sophia will always be my priority.”
“But after we’re married, I’ll cherish and protect you as your father requires. I won’t let you feel even
a moment of unhappiness.”
Rianne kept smiling until her eyes hurt.

Chapter 6
Ash, you say you won’t let me feel even a moment of unhappiness, but do you realize that all my unhappiness comes from you?
She said nothing, though, because it no longer mattered.
Ash spent less than five minutes in Rianne’s room before being called away by Sophia’s phone call.
Before leaving, he left behind a gift box. Inside was a blue diamond jewelry set–expensive, but
clearly inferior to the “Tears of the Ocean.”
Everything was just as Ash had promised: he would pamper Rianne, but not too much. Sophia would always be his priority, and Rianne would always come second.
Rianne glanced at the jewelry box and threw it straight into the trash.
Her man would have to put her first in everything. If she could only be second place, she didn’t want
that man at all.
Soon, Rianne’s birthday arrived.
This was her 20th birthday, and after today she would be of legal age to marry.
Mr. Lockhart had said he would announce Rianne’s future husband on her 20th birthday.
So the celebration was unprecedentedly grand, with all the notable figures of Manhattan in
attendance.
Rianne wore a one–of–a–kind designer gown. But unfortunately, the “Tears of the Ocean” had been stolen by Sophia–it would have perfectly complemented her outfit.
Just then, a servant knocked and entered, carrying an exquisite gift box.
“Miss Lockhart, this comes from Mr. Quinn,” the servant said respectfully. “Mr. Quinn heard you were upset about losing the jewels at the auction, so he personally went to South Africa to find an even more precious set for you.”
He opened the box as he spoke.
Inside, a massive pigeon–blood ruby diamond glittered so brilliantly it outshone everything around
- it.
Among diamonds, the pigeon–blood red is considered the most precious of all.

“This set is called ‘Heart of the Desert,” the servant explained. “Mr. Quinn says blue diamonds are considered off–color–red diamonds are the true royalty.”
Rianne’s face lit up with a long–absent smile as she placed the “Heart of the Desert” around her neck. The aura of nobility instantly radiated from her.
Marriage could never be the same with just anyone. In that moment, Rianne was immensely grateful she had chosen Drake Quinn.
After finishing her preparations, Rianne opened her bedroom door to leave, only to find Sophia waiting outside.
“Sis…” Sophia approached, seemingly about to say something, but froze when she saw the blood–red
diamond necklace around Rianne’s neck.
“Where did you get that necklace?” Sophia changed her question. “Did my brother give it to you?”
Rianne coldly brushed past Sophia: “None of your business.”
But jealousy flashed in Sophia’s eyes: “Rianne, you don’t actually think my brother likes you, do
you?”
“He loves me, not you. He’s only marrying you out of gratitude to your father. He’s disgusted by the
very thought of you.”
As she spoke, Sophia pulled out her phone and showed Rianne a video–in it, Ash was pushing
Sophia onto a bed, kissing her frantically…
“See that? Has my brother ever kissed you like this? Has he ever been this passionate for you?”
‘If you’re smart, don’t choose my brother tonight. You can pick any of my other six puppies.”
‘I’ve slept with all of them anyway. Julian’s the best in bed, Zach has the most stamina… whoever you pick, they’ll fuck you good.”
