Before Avery could respond, a low, dangerous growl cut through the noise of the hospital, freezing everyone in place..
Cain stood in the doorway, his towering frame radiating raw power and rage. His dark gaze
was locked on the warrior’s hand, which was still lightly resting on Avery’s wrist.
Avery flinched hard, the shock of Cain’s growl jolting her upright. She stumbled back, jerking her wrist free from the warrior’s grip, her heart hammering in her chest. Her eyes darted towards Cain, whose gaze was fixed on her wrist, where the warrior had
held her.
She shakily pulled her hand behind her back, swallowing hard.
The warrior stammered, his voice shaky and almost incoherent as he tried to speak. “Alpha–1-”
Cain took a single step forward, and the warrior visibly shrank, his back pressing against the wall. His bravado was gone, replaced by sheer terror. The nurses and other warriors in the room stood frozen, too afraid to move, their gazes flickering nervously between Cain and the unfortunate warrior.
“Leave.” Cain’s voice was dangerously calm, yet it sent shudders down the spines of those present.
The warrior swallowed hard, scrambling to his feet and practically tripping over himself in his haste to get away. He didn’t even glance at Avery as he bolted for the
door.
“Alpha…” the doctor who had stepped out of the room only to come back to the chaos. made his way over, his eyes darting between Cain and Avery. “I can…”
Cain ignored him, crossing the room in long, deliberate strides and grabbing Avery’s wrist roughly, pulling her along with him. “Alpha, Cain, please… what are you-” she rushed out in panic, but he didn’t reply.

The doctor and patients present all stared in stunned silence as their Alpha dragged Avery out of the hospital, his grip tight and his jaw set in a hard line.
Cain’s grip on Avery’s wrist was unrelenting as he dragged her through the hallways of the pack house. His pace was so quick that she struggled to keep up. She stumbled more than once, biting back gasps, her wrist throbbing with pain from how tight he was holding her.
She didn’t dare protest, though the ache in her arm grew worse with every step. She bowed her head in shame, feeling the hundreds of eyes following them as he dragged her into the pack house.
Finally, Cain pushed open a door and all but shoved her inside. He let go of her wrist roughly, and she staggered back, catching herself on a nearby table. A sharp gasp escaped her lips. Her hand instinctively went to her wrist, cradling it gently. She glanced down at the angry red marks his grip had left behind.

She didn’t look up right Her chest felt tight, her breathing uneven as she tried to process what had just happened yet couldn’t.
“What the hell was that about?” Cain growled, low and furious. The anger in his voice made her flinch.
Avery swallowed hard, her eyes still fixed on the floor. “I… I don’t understand.”
“You don’t understand?” Cain barked out, a disbelieving scoff escaping his lips. He stepped closer, and she instinctively took a step back, her back pressing against the wall. “I walk into the hospital, and some idiot has his hand on you, flirting with you, and you don’t see the problem?”
Her eyes darted up to meet his. “It wasn’t like that,” she murmured. “He wasn’t… he wasn’t doing anything wrong.”
Cain let out a sharp, bitter laugh. “You think that was nothing?” He shook his head, running a hand through his hair in frustration. “He wasn’t doing anything wrong? Is that some kind of joke?” He spat out.
Avery shut her eyes, frustration bubbling inside of her. She had no idea what she had done wrong. All she did was help someone in need of help, and somehow it’s her fault. She had stayed away from him since he yelled at her until now…
“I–I wasn’t trying to-” she stammered, her voice breaking.

“Of course you aren’t. Tell me, Avery? Are you really that desperate? Do you crave attention that bad? What now? Are you going to open your arms to every Tom, Dick, and Harry that flirts with you? Is that it?” He snapped, his eyes darkening with each word. “What now? First it was Xander, and now this warrior? I knew you were desperate for attention, but I never knew how bad it was. I yelled at you once, and What do you do? Run to the next available man?”
Cain’s words hit Avery like a slap, her breath hitching as she stared at him with wide. wounded eyes. Her chest tightened as tears threatened to spill. She shook her hea frantically, her voice trembling as she tried to defend herself.
Avery shook her head, “It wasn’t… I wasn’t trying to… I didn’t do anything wrong. I was only helping!”
“And when did your job description become to help wounded warriors? Did I miss the memo on when you became a nurse? A part of the pack doctor, or were you just seeking attention and validation? That’s the only reason you were there!”
Avery shook her head harder this time, “I swear, I didn’t…”
Cain stalked closer to her this time, his intense gaze pinning her. She gulped heavily, her back pressed against the wall. “Tell me, did you want him to fuck you the way I did during your heat?”
Avery’s breath caught in her throat, her face draining of color at Cain’s crude words. “Please stop.”
Cain paused, his gaze heavy on her, staring at her intently as she trembled, her eyes filled with unshed tears. He stepped back, running his fingers through his hair. He was cruel, he knew it, but there was nothing he could do about it. He had gone into the hospital to check on the recruits who had been injured when he saw it, heard it. The warrior was not only bold enough to touch her, he was bold enough to speak about mating… intended mate.
Cain saw red, his wolf had taken over in an instant, and for a second, all he heard was nothing but a loud whirring sound. Rage boiled inside of him heavily, as the boy’s words echoed in his head. He shouldn’t be this affected. He is just a boy, a young boy, and yet it gripped something primal inside him. It was the heat, that was the only best explanation for it. Their bond had grown stronger, and now he was losing it. He’d even dragged her in here in front of everyone! How ridiculous.

He dragged his hand over his face, glancing at her once again. “Avery, L…”
He’s cut off by her gaze. Avery stepped forward, her hands clenched at her sides, trembling. “I don’t know what you want from me”
“I–I can’t do anything right by you. I was only helping…”
“No one asked you to help. You’re a maid. A servant, not a nurse. You had no business in there!” He spat out.
Avery stood still, shell–shocked. His words played in her head again. She had always known who he was. Cain Knight. But this, this was different, even for him.
She swallowed hard, blinking back her tears and nodded. “I’m sorry. I- Can I leave?” Cain stared at her for some seconds, his wolf gnawing at him to do something. Not let her out of his sight. Make her stay. Apologize- he shut his wolf down quickly!
“Leave,” he said, his voice gruff and hoarse.
Avery didn’t waste any more time before bolting out.
