Chapter 5
Medical staff arrived quickly and stopped my bleeding with maximum efficiency.
Alex was both anxious and furious. “Katie, you’re absolutely beyond help!”
Once the doctor finished bandaging all my wounds, he threw those words at me and left.
Julian poured me a glass of water and held it to my lips.
“Take a sip. Your lips are cracked and bleeding.”
I stared at him coldly, neither moving nor responding.
Julian sighed.
“Everyone’s on Aria’s side, even your own brother. I heard Alex used to dote on you. Haven’t you
ever reflected on why you’ve ended up so alone and abandoned?”
I answered, “I’ve reflected plenty. Three years ago, I shouldn’t have saved you, shouldn’t have
brought you home, and definitely shouldn’t have considered you family…”
Julian’s face, which had just relaxed slightly, tensed up again at my words.
That night, after I fell asleep, Julian went to the bathroom and received a phone call.
The hospital room was quiet, and I faintly overheard their conversation.
“Those men have been dealt with?”
“Yes! Mr. Reid, I’m sorry, I never expected they would smear that thing on Katie’s phone! I’ve already… physically castrated them!”
Julian nodded with satisfaction.
“Mr. Reid, we’ve investigated everything. Katie wasn’t lying. It was indeed Miss Aria who provoked first. She smashed her mother’s urn and taunted her, even saying ‘if you’ve got the guts, break my hands and see how Mr. Reid retaliates!“”
“Mr. Reid, you’ve truly misjudged Katie…”

The truth was always this easy to discover.
Julian, what would you do now?
“The person I like naturally has the right to act as she pleases. As for others…”
Julian paused, not finishing his words.
Even without him saying it, I understood. For “others“, even if Aria killed them, he would cover for
her.
And I was just one of those “others“.
This was Julian’s stance–even if Aria killed me someday, he’d probably praise her for protecting
herself. Hah…
I squeezed my eyes shut.
All my love and all my trust was truly have been given to the wrong person.
Julian returned after the call and gently tucked in my blanket.
His movements were tender, but they no longer stirred even a ripple in my heart.
Early the next morning, I activated Siri.
“Call Lucian Fairfax.”
The dialing tone began.
At that time, Julian returned with breakfast and, seeing this, suddenly realized something.
“That day… you could have used voice commands to call for help…”
I looked up:
“And then what?”
Julian:…
“And then, like before, you’d force me to apologize to the enemy who smashed my mother’s urn?

In that case, I’d rather die!”
Julian’s body tensed, and he couldn’t utter another word.
He recalled what the emergency doctor had said that day: “If she’d arrived even minutes later, not
even God could have saved her.”
Those words haunted him like a nightmare; he still dare to sleep properly.
He clenched his fists, then slowly released them.
The call connected at the last second.
“Lucian, help me hire a bodyguard.”
Hearing that, Julian’s nerves were stretched taut again.
“You said you only needed one bodyguard–me!”
His eyes reflected the anger of someone betrayed and abandoned, just like when his birth mother
had abandoned him.
That woman who constantly professed her love for him had left him no matter how he cried and begged on his knees…
While Julian’s emotions were in turmoil, I remained calm:
“Julian, haven’t you always wanted to leave? I’m setting you free. Now you can go to Aria’s side!
She’ll certainly welcome you with open arms!”
Julian’s face quickly turned ashen.
“Our contract was for three years. We still have one month left!”
This was exactly what he wanted, yet now that I was freeing him, he was suddenly displeased.
Hah, men!
I didn’t care; even saying one more word to him felt exhausting.
“Whatever. Stay if you want…”

Chapter 5
Julian:…
His already stern face grew even colder.
Shortly after, Lucian arrived with people.
Lucian was my arch–nemesis, yet also the only person I trusted not to stab me in the back.
He leaned against the doorframe, giving me a cool look before shifting his gaze to Julian.
The schadenfreude in his mind was probably about to burst forth.
“Want to mock me? I’ll give you three minutes.”
I looked back at him. We’d been at odds since kindergarten; we knew each other too well.
But this time, Lucian surprisingly held his tongue. With a wave of his hand, three bodyguards
entered the room.
All three men stood over six–foot–three.
Taller than Julian, more muscular than Julian, and even more handsome than him.
Then I randomly chose one and also had Lucian find me a female caretaker to help me with washing and personal care until my hands and feet recovered.
I stayed in the hospital for over ten days before being discharged.
The first thing I did upon returning home was reassign the rooms.
The caretaker and new bodyguard would stay on the second floor, while Julian was moved to a
guest room on the first floor.
As he moved his belongings downstairs, Julian’s expression was dark and bitter.
He said, “You and Lucian are enemies. The people he found might not be trustworthy.”
But I laughed, “However untrustworthy they might be, they won’t stand by coldly while my enemies humiliate me, and they certainly won’t leverage my moments of crisis to force me to apologize to
those enemies!”
