Chapter 14
On the third day of my imprisonment on the isolated island, Julian arrived.
When I saw the sapphire bracelet in his hand, I immediately understood everything.
I closed my eyes, never wanting to look at him again.
That same day, I was taken back home.
Not to the Shred house, but to my own home.
Several specialists were already waiting there.
These were the same doctors who had once treated Aria’s merely fractured arm.
Julian stayed by my side constantly.
He said there was hope my hand could regain eighty percent functionality.
I didn’t respond.
He personally fed me water and food.
I still refused to eat or drink.
He began punishing the people I hated most.
On the first day, he said:
“The Shred family is bankrupt.”
On the second day:
“I’ve sent Aria to a mental institution. Don’t worry, for the rest of her life, I’ll make her suffer so
much she’ll regret being born…”
On the third day:
“Your dad has divorced Linda.”

“Linda will receive her due punishment. As for your dad, I’ve made him kneel at your mother’s grave until you’re willing to forgive him…”
He seemed to have done so much for me, but I couldn’t feel an ounce of gratitude.
For him, it was easy to bankrupt the Shred family, easy to destroy the wicked mother and daughter I’d hated for ten years, easy to punish my despicable father–just as easily as he had ruined my hand
for Aria’s sake.
I still continued to survive only through IV fluids.
The cold liquid pumped into my body, leaving me chilled to the bone.
Every possible injection site on my arms was covered in needle marks, with IV lines becoming inflamed and swollen after just one day.
Each drop of fluid caused the needle sites to throb with pain.
When even the most skilled nurses could find no place left to insert a needle, his eyes finally
reddened.
“Katie, what will it take for you to eat something?”
For the first time, I turned to look at him directly. He clutched my hand tightly, his bloodshot eyes
sunken, looking ten years older and utterly haggard.
I finally spoke: “Let me go.”
His anguished expression gradually hardened as he stood up. “Impossible! If you leave, you’ll never
see me again.”
I smiled. At least he had some self–awareness.
Then I closed my eyes again and said nothing more.
I don’t know how long he stood by my bedside.
A month into my captivity, Lucian snuck into my villa.
“Julian has lost his mind, Katie. Want to escape with me?”
He had also lost a lot of weight.

Without hesitation, I agreed: “Yes.”
Lucian smuggled me out of the villa, where someone was waiting for us.
It was Alex.
He looked at me, wanting to say something, but ultimately remained silent.
The car sped away, and I saw the outside world again.
I took a deep breath.
Freedom tasted so sweet.
But we couldn’t escape completely.
The car was intercepted at the highway exit.
I watched as Julian stepped out of the car ahead of us.
The free sky was covered by a dark curtain, and I could no longer see the light.
