Chapter 15
I was brought back to the villa again, where Lucian and Alex were both tied up.
“Why did you leave me?” Julian asked calmly.
He was peeling an apple with a fruit knife, his cold face showing no emotion at all.
This version of him was the most terrifying.
I stared at him without speaking.
Julian carved the apple into a little bunny shape and arranged the pieces neatly on a fruit plate.
He speared a piece with a toothpick and held it in front of me.
I remained unmoved.
He smiled.
“Tell me, should I cut off Lucian’s hand first, or Alex’s foot?”
Hearing that, my face went pale.
His smile deepened.
‘Oh, I forgot, you gave up on Alex long ago.”
‘Then how about I bankrupt the Fairfax family, turn Lucian into a homeless man? Or send him abroad, have him injected with special drugs every day until he rots in a gutter…”
I finally took the apple piece.
ulian’s fingers trembled slightly as he suppressed the tears suddenly welling in his eyes.
He went to the door and ordered: “Prepare food, soft and suitable for a patient!”
His throat was dry, suppressing a tremble.
But I acted as if I hadn’t heard, silently eating the apple slice.

Chapter 15
“Julian, didn’t I tell you before that. I could just die…”
No one in this world can force me!
He whipped around.
But I was already standing by the window ledge, smiling at him.
“Katie!”
He rushed toward me as I let myself fall backward.
In my ears, the sound of freedom.
Before my eyes, Julian’s face contorted with despair.
Yet, I still didn’t succeed in dying, even though I deliberately aimed my head at the ground.
That idiot Lucian, instead of escaping after breaking free of his restraints, ran to catch me.
I survived, but his arms were broken.
I stared at his double arm casts, speechless.
Alex lingered outside the hospital room for a long time before finally coming in.
“Julian said to take care of yourself and recover well.”
I knew he wouldn’t let me go easily.
But it didn’t matter.
I could still die, right?
I would never have anything to do with him again.
“Katie, is there really nothing in this world worth living for anymore?” Lucian asked, his eyes red, his expression torn and pained.
Looking at his expression, for a moment, I felt like I might want to live after all.
Under Lucian’s attentive care, my body gradually recovered.

Chapter 15
After six months of rehabilitation, my hand could finally hold a pen again.
The following year, I entered the Tiffany American Design Excellence competition and won the championship as I’d always dreamed.
The trophy was heavy, and my half–damaged hands couldn’t hold it, so Lucian thoughtfully held it
for me.
As we left the venue, I received a call from an unknown number.
It was Julian’s assistant.
He said Julian had someone break his hands and feet, cut the tendons in his hands, and dump him in
the alley where we first met.
“Mr. Reid asks if you could forgive him if he hasn’t died after three days?”
I said nothing.
The assistant couldn’t help adding:
“Mr. Reid is severely injured and has lost a lot of blood. Three days–he won’t last! Miss Katie, only
you can save him now. Could you please…”
“No,” I said, and hung up.
When I turned around, Lucian’s cheeks were flushed, as if he was thinking about something.
Noticing my gaze, he suddenly asked:
“Katie, you’re so stupid, and still half–disabled. You need someone reliable by your side. Would you
consider marrying me?”
My heart felt like it had been struck hard.
Seeing my silence, Lucian looked away nervously and waved his hand. “I was just asking randomly, don’t take it seriously!”
‘Aren’t you afraid Julian will bankrupt you? Aren’t you afraid he’ll skin you alive?”
Lucian’s eyes flashed with joy, his gaze determined: “Everyone dies eventually. If you can’t do what you want in life, can’t protect what you cherish, what’s the point of living to a hundred?”

MERSION
Chapter 15
I smiled. “Alright then, I’ll marry you.”
That day, Julian never saw Katie come.
He lay alone in a pool of blood in the alley where Katie had saved him twice before, enduring for three whole days.
He just watched as his blood drained away, as ants began to feed on the exposed bones of his outstretched hand.
His phone lay within reach, but he lacked the strength to move a finger to dial her number, to hear her voice one last time.”
He finally understood the despair and pain he had inflicted on her.
“Katie, I’m sorry…”
