Chapter 62
Dylan lay on Olivia’s back, his mind a whirlwind of conflicting thoughts.
She wondered, ‘She has such astonishing strength. She’s even able to run so fast while carrying me. It seems that when Olivia hits me, she doesn’t use her full strength. She can’t bear to strike hard, right?‘
Lost in his own musings, Dylan completely overlooked the danger they were in and even felt a sense of security. This feeling was reminiscent of the time eight years ago when he had been rescued from danger.
“Ah. Help.” Chloe, who was walking ahead, suddenly let out a panicked scream.
By this time, they had run a considerable distance and reached a slope. Chloe missed a step and began to roll down.
As she tumbled, she grabbed Olivia’s foot, causing Olivia to lose her balance and fall as well.
In the nick of time, Olivia decisively let go of Dylan and instinctively shielded her lower abdomen with her hands.
Beneath the withered grass at the bottom of the slope lay a deep pit.
Olivia’s heart skipped a beat. As she rolled into the pit, she forcefully grabbed the earthen walls at the edge to slow her descent.
Her protective action proved effective; the impact when she landed was not severe. However, her fingers were now embedded with dirt and gravel, and her left index finger’s nail had been torn off, causing excruciating pain that made her shudder uncontrollably.
Olivia leaned against the wall, slid down to sit on the ground, closed her eyes, and clenched her teeth, waiting for the intense pain to subside.
The only relief was that she felt only a slight discomfort in her lower abdomen; the babies should be fine.
“Ouch. How could there be such a large and deep pit here? How are we supposed to get out of this deep hole?” Chloe cried, wailing in despair.
Nearby, Dylan’s muffled groans of pain could be heard.
After a while, Dylan weakly spoke. “Chloe, something’s clamped onto my foot. I think the trap has pierced the bone. You need to come over and help me get it off.”
Dylan’s voice was weak and pained, as if he had exerted great effort to keep from screaming.
Chloe turned to look at Dylan’s foot and was horrified at the sight. “How could there be such a large trap here? Darling, you’re bleeding so much. Is your foot okay?”
Dylan gritted his teeth and said, “Don’t ask so many questions. Just help me get this trap off. If it stays on any longer, my leg is going to be broken.”
“A–Alright, I’ll help you open it,” Chloe replied, crawling over despite her own pain, trying to release the trap that had caught Dylan’s foot.
But despite her best efforts, she could only manage to open it a little. As soon as she relaxed her grip, the trap snapped shut again.
“Ah.” Dylan let out a painful scream.
“Darling, I’m so sorry. This trap is too big; I can’t open it,” Chloe cried, apologizing.
She suddenly remembered Olivia and turned to look at her. Olivia was sitting against the wall, her head leaning back, her chin slightly raised, her eyes closed, letting the rain wash over her face.
Despite her disheveled appearance, there was a broken yet breathtaking beauty about her. Chloe’s face twisted with anger, and she shouted, “Olivia, what are you daydreaming about? Come and help. Dylan’s leg is about to be broken.”
Olivia was taken aback for a moment. ‘I’m enduring pain, and she thinks I’m daydreaming?‘ she wondered.

Chapter 62
Olivia didn’t bother explaining to the woman who seemed to lack common sense. She opened her eyes and saw that Dylan’s left leg was caught in a ware animal trap, likely meant for big game.
The pit they had fallen into was a hunting trap. Although it was only about 10 feet deep, it was wide at the bottom and narrow at the top, making it difficult to climb out.
After surveying the situation, Olivia focused her attention back on herself and removed the partially detached nail from her left index finger.
It was barely hanging on by a small piece of skin, and every touch caused unbearable pain. Olivia decided it was better to rip it off quickly
Both Chloe and Dylan watched in horror as Olivia performed this act of self–inflicted pain, unable to fathom her toughness. ‘She’s way too hard on herself, they wondered.
Olivia tore a strip of cloth from her clothes, wrapped it around the wound, and then stood up. She walked over to Dylan, squatted down, and examined the animal trap clamped onto his leg before using her hands and feet to pry it open.
These traps have an incredibly strong bite force, and it’s usually difficult for an average adult to open them by hand. Typically, the person who set the trap would need a special tool to release it.
Olivia was able to open it because she had trained in martial arts, giving her greater strength than most people.
The moment the trap was opened, a large amount of blood gushed from Dylan’s foot, staining the ground a deep, dark color.
Olivia tore another piece of cloth from Dylan’s clothes and quickly tied it around his wound to staunch the bleeding.
Dylan was in so much pain that he nearly fainted, and he became even weaker.
Ignoring Dylan for the moment, Olivia began to survey the pit they were in, thinking about how to get out.
The location of the pit was particularly bad; rainwater from the mountain was flowing into it.
Moreover, there was no way to be certain that the mountain wouldn’t experience a landslide. Staying here was extremely dangerous; they had to get out
as soon as possible.
“Darling, what should we do? This hole is like a barrel, so deep, and we can’t possibly climb out. Are we just going to wait to die?” Chloe clung to Dylan, crying her heart out, completely despondent.
Olivia looked at her coldly. “Why are you crying? You haven’t even tried. How do you know we can’t get out?”
Chloe retorted angrily, “Do we even need to try? It’s obvious we can’t get out.”
Olivia said sarcastically, “The pit where Dylan was buried eight years ago was deeper than this one. Didn’t you say you saved him? If you could get him out of a deeper pit back then, why can’t you do it now?”
The pit where Dylan had been in danger eight years ago was an unfinished, abandoned well.
Dylan had been severely injured, thrown into the pit, and buried under a layer of dirt.
Olivia, with her keen hearing, had detected faint sounds from the pit and managed to dig him out in time.
If she hadn’t, he wouldn’t have survived long enough for rescue, and even his body might never have been found.
That pit was at least 16 feet deep, and it had been abandoned because the rock below couldn’t be dug through.
Now, Dylan also looked at Chloe hopefully, his eyes softening. He held her hand and said, “Chloe, I’m counting on you again. You did it before. I believe you can do it this time, too.
“If you save me again this time, my mom’s opinion of you will definitely change. Maybe she won’t target you anymore in the future.”
