Chapter 5
Austin had arrived. With his phone still in hand, he marched up to me and pried Jonah’s
hand off me. Then, he lightly caressed my reddened wrist before asking me with a gentle gaze, “Are you okay?”
I nodded to assure him. Now that he was standing between Jonah and me, using his tall, muscular physique to hide me from danger, I felt completely secure.
While the two bodyguards behind Austin wordlessly stood guard at the door, Austin put his arm around my shoulder and addressed Jonah with an emotionless expression, “Oh. If it isn’t Mr. Alston. Pray tell. Why were you grabbing my fiancée by the wrist and spouting
nonsense in her face?
“She’s free to wear whatever she wants to our wedding. Even if she asks for a tiara adorned with the stars from the sky, I’ll do whatever it takes to get it for her. You’ve already broken up with her, so why are you sticking your nose in her business? Aren’t you worried that one over there might get jealous?”
When Austin’s piercing eyes flitted over Sasha, the look he had made her tremble in fear,
and her eyes immediately teared up.
Meanwhile, Jonah’s expression hardened. “What did you say? Who are you calling your fiancée?”
He tried to pull me over to him, but Austin shielded me well.
If not for me, Jonah might never have had the chance to meet Austin in person. After all, their families belonged to entirely different circles. Even Jonah’s parents and grandparents had to treat Austin with the utmost respect.
Seeing the stoic look on Austin’s face, everyone else dared not make a sound. Jonah was the only one who defiantly demanded an explanation from me.
“I see what’s going on here, Celeste. I can’t believe you even got Austin Everett to put on a show with you! Since you’ve gone to such great lengths just to marry me, so be it. I promise

I couldn’t even be bothered to look Jonah in the eye. Instead, I allowed Austin to pull me
into his arms and escort me out of the room.
As the car cruised down the streets, I looked at Austin and exhaled, saying, “Thanks a lot for your help today. How did you know where I was?”
He smiled at me, the light in his eyes particularly enchanting. “You didn’t end the call, so I heard the fight. That reminded me of the welcome home party Jonah was throwing for his first love. You could ask a random person on the street, and they would’ve heard about it
too. So, it was easy to find out where it was being held.”
That made me laugh. Meanwhile, Jonah was spamming my phone with calls. I didn’t bother
rejecting them, though I didn’t take them either. Once he realized I wasn’t going to answer
his calls, he started bombarding me with messages instead.
“What’s the meaning of this, Celeste? Did you get people to put on a show with you just to humiliate Sasha? How many times have I told you that you got the wrong idea about Sasha and me? Don’t be so easily influenced by baseless rumors!”
“Sasha is crying her heart out right now. She keeps saying she’s the reason you’ve misunderstood us. Once she moves in tomorrow, you better clear things up with her properly. She’s completely innocent. This has nothing to do with her.”
“Where are you now, Celeste? Why aren’t you coming back? Sasha is too afraid to even
come back to the house with me. She insists on staying at a hotel instead because she
doesn’t want us to fight. Hurry up and come back!”
His tirade filled my screen. Resisting the bitterness in my heart, I turned my phone off and closed my eyes.
It was indeed time to say goodbye.
I spent the night at my own house. The next day, I went to the house that was meant to be

Jonah’s and my marital home. I had hired people to ship off most of the things yesterday, including all of the materials related to my research in the study. The only thing left for me
to retrieve was a small suitcase.
The moment I opened the front door, I heard Sasha saying sweetly to Jonah, “You cook so
well, Jonnie! I could never recreate the same flavors when I lived abroad. I missed you so
much while I was over there. Come on. Eat with me!”
Jonah chuckled affectionately. “Oh, you silly goose. If you like it so much, you can have it anytime you want. Now that you’re back in the country, I’ll cook for you, every day.”
Hearing that, Sasha slowly set her cutlery down. “But Jonnie, you’re about to get married. I’m sure Celeste won’t want us to be too close anymore. It won’t look good.”
“What’s the big deal? Haven’t you always known how I felt about you? Celeste and I are only together because of our parents. Don’t you know who I truly want to marry?”
I tossed my keys down, and the clang that rang out as they hit the floor startled the two, cutting their heartfelt exchange short.
