Chapter 530
Wendy was still standing in the hospital room, yet Lucas spoke with such bluntness, not even bothering to spare her a shred of dignity.
At this point, everything was out in the open–there was no point pretending anymore.
Naturally, Kenneth’s tone toward Lucas had grown more indifferent.
It was nothing like the camaraderie they once had.
He gave Wendy a subtle look, signaling her to step out.
The rest of the conversation was clearly meant to be between men
Besides, Judy was still waiting for an update.
He couldn’t just leave Wendy sitting around here alone.
The weather was biting, and there was no heating in this place.
She had already been freezing at home, but somehow, being back in Lucas‘ house made her feel even colder.
Kenneth cleared his throat and began placing the items one by one on the side table.
“Look, Lucas, I came because I really need a favor.”
Lucas raised an eyebrow, already anticipating it.
“Alright, what is it?”
But before Kenneth could say a word, Wendy suddenly stepped forward.
“Lucas,” she said, lifting her chin.
“I was the one who knew you first. So why don’t I get a chance?”
Lucas found that laughable, probably the funniest thing he’d heard all year.
“You really think you can control how I feel?”
Wendy instantly fell silent.
She had once believed she’d be the first woman Lucas would choose.
But now, all she felt was bitter disappointment.
She would never know who actually came first in his heart.
Meanwhile, Kenneth tried to refocus, reminding himself why he came in the first place.
“Lucas, we’re talking about things that happened years ago. Do you really not feel anything at all?”
Kenneth looked at the side of Lucas‘ unmoved face and suddenly felt like he didn’t recognize him anymore.
The Lucas he used to know had at least shown a trace of warmth.
He wasn’t like this, detached and indifferent even to him.
Lucas remained calm. “It’s because I still see you as a friend that I’m letting you say all his to my face.”
Hearing that, Kenneth fell silent.
He could only glance quietly at the woman lying in the bed.

It was then he realized how stumming she truly was.
Even with her pale complexion, lying motionless like a porcelain doll trapped in a glass case, she looked unreal.
She was too beautiful to be real.
Yet just one look could draw him in and make him fall without warning.
Kenneth licked his lips and couldn’t help but mutter, “So this is your wife?”
The moment the words left his mouth, Lucas’s gaze turned sharp. What are you trying to say?”
“Nothing, nothing. I was just asking.”
Lucas‘ reaction startled Kenneth.
He had never seen him so rattled.
Lucas had always been the type to keep his emotions locked down.
Even with family or close friends, he rarely let anything show.
But now, it was obvious–just how much this woman meant to him
“Relax, Lucas: The main reason I came today was to talk to you about Wendy.”
Lucas frowned, but before he could respond, Kenneth went on, “And second, I just wanted to ask–what exactly is her illness? I
have connections to some top doctors overseas. I can bring someone in to take a look.”
