I froze instantly.
For the entire rest of the auction, I was in a daze.
After leaving the auction and getting into Jasper’s car, I hesitated before speaking:
“Do you know my sister well?”
Jasper turned to look at me, his eyes holding a meaning I couldn’t decipher.
“Of course.”
My heart tightened.
“You were engaged to me, so why would you know my sister? Did you want to marry my sister?”
Jasper didn’t answer, instead asking me: “Does it matter to you who I wanted to marry?”
I didn’t get an answer and was stumped by his question instead.
He was more difficult to deal with than I had imagined.
“Of course it matters, after all I’m your wife now.”
I simply pulled out the “sovereignty declaration” and changed the subject.
“Since we got married, this is only the second time I’ve seen you. Have you always been this busy?”
“Mm.”
He only gave that one response before closing his eyes to rest.
It was better that he didn’t talk. I breathed a sigh of relief and turned to look out the window.
Half an hour later, the car entered the estate.
As soon as I got out, I headed straight for the bathroom to remove my makeup, shower, and apply a face mask.
When I came out wearing a silk slip nightgown, Jasper was sitting on the bedroom sofa.
Seeing me emerge, his gaze fell on me.

He stood up and walked toward me.

With that, he turned off the lights and got into bed beside me.
I lay down with my face completely red.
On our wedding day, both Jasper and I had been drinking, so the lovemaking had proceeded very naturally.
