Chapter 16
“Jasper, as soon as I heard you were getting married, I rushed back immediately!”
“How could you marry someone else? You used to say you only loved me!”
The girl in the red gown spoke loudly, and everyone around could hear her.
I had originally planned to pretend I didn’t see and walk right past, but her voice made me stop.
I turned to look at Jasper, my expression somewhat cold.
I was beginning to think I was cursed with bad luck.
After three years of dating, my boyfriend couldn’t let go of his ex.
Now that I had finally gotten married, my husband apparently also had an old flame?
Fortunately, this marriage was just a business contract anyway. If Jasper truly had feelings for someone else, I
wouldn’t be too heartbroken.
I noticed that Jasper had also seen me.
His expression didn’t change; he just looked on indifferently.
The girl in the red gown also followed his gaze and saw me.
Her face immediately darkened.
“Jasper, who is she?”
Jasper shook off her hand and walked straight to me, gripping my hand tightly.
“Let me introduce you–this is my wife.”
I looked at him in disbelief.
Jasper also looked at me and said: “Your expression makes me think you’ve forgotten we’re married.”
”
I snapped back to reality. “Of course I haven’t forgotten.”
The girl in the red gown’s eyes immediately welled up with tears, but she said nothing and turned to enter the charity auction hall.

“Who is she?” I asked.
Jasper held my hand as we walked toward the venue, answering as we went:
“Grace, a student the Ford family used to sponsor. She’s now starting a business in France.”
“So you two…?”
I hesitated to finish the question.
“We were together once, for only a month.” He explained matter–of–factly.
“She threatened suicide at the time, so I agreed to be her boyfriend.”
‘Later, grandfather sent her to France for treatment. After growing up, she matured, and we haven’t been in contact
since.”
In just a few sentences, Jasper had clearly explained his past with Grace.
I was satisfied, but also felt guilty.
I didn’t refuse his hand–holding and followed him into the charity auction.
The Ford family’s seats were in the front row.
Shortly after Jasper and I sat down, the auction began.
Staff members introduced each auction item one by one.
I wasn’t interested in these auctions, but as the wife of the Ford family heir, attending various high society events
was one of my responsibilities.
“The next collectible item.”
“This necklace is called ‘Sunset Serenade,‘ designed by famous artist Vissi after hearing the story of our country’s legendary singer Whitney Houston, inspired by her song of the same name.”
I had been drowsy, but after hearing “Whitney Houston,” I became much more alert.
I was her fan, after all.
“Bidding starts now. Starting price: $1 million.”
“$1 million!”
“$3 million!”
“$5 million!”

$10 million!”
The next moment, the entire venue suddenly went quiet. As Jasper made his bid, he also made a gesture.
I looked at him in surprise: “Are you planning to bid the ceiling price from the start?”
Yes.”
asper replied softly.
With Jasper’s “kill shot” bidding strategy, no one dared speak up or continue bidding.
The auctioneer continued: “$10 million once!”
$10 million twice!”
‘$10 million three times!”
$10 million, Sunset Serenade, sold!”
‘I wonder what attracted Mr. Jasper to ‘Sunset Serenade‘ that he was willing to spare no expense to acquire this
necklace?”
asper stood up, looked at me, and said:
My wife’s sister might like this necklace.”
