“He opened it himself.”
“What the fuck?! How the hell does he know the password to your apartment?!”
That was exactly what scared Adelaide. Even though the Pierce family had free access to that apartment, the password was only known by her and Garrett. She had no idea how Spencer got the password.
It was easy to imagine that Spencer had been standing outside the door, listening to her argument with Garrett earlier.
Thinking back to how he had someone follow her the night before, Adelaide felt a chill down her spine even now.
Even if Spencer was just trying to push for the divorce to help Amanda achieve her goal, this level of surveillance was a bit too
much.
“Lady, there’s something I don’t know if I should say…”
“Lady, we’re still eating. You don’t want to ruin my appetite.”
Teresa was silent for two seconds, but eventually slammed her fork down. “Nope, I can’t hold it in! Are you sure Spencer just

wants to help his dear little sister push you into a divorce? Because I swear, the way I see it, he’s into you. Yes, you’re siblings, but you’re not blood–related!”
Adelaide’s hand trembled slightly. “Teresa, I don’t dare think about that.”
Sensing her fear, Teresa pulled her into a hug. “Forget it. I was just talking nonsense.
“But it might not be nonsense.””
“Adele…”
“My divorce from Garrett is inevitable. If Spencer really has other feelings for me, I’ll definitely keep my distance. Still, if the Pierce family or outsiders ever found out, I can’t imagine what would happen. It’s terrifying, Teresa,” her voice trembled as she spoke.
“I know, I know!” Teresa didn’t dare imagine it either, and she had no idea how Adelaide was supposed to deal with that. “It’s okay, you still have your trump card, Reginald.”
Speaking of Reginald…
Adelaide’s phone rang at that exact moment.
Speak of the devil.

She answered, trying to be composed, “Mr. Thorton.”
“Cherry Manor. Can you come now?”
“Yes, I can.”
Half an hour later, Adelaide arrived by car.
The place was a private restaurant, serving only twelve tables
per day. Reservations were notoriously hard to get.
After Adelaide parked, Nathan appeared.
“Ms. Pierce.”
“Good afternoon, Mr. Hurst.” Adelaide naturally walked with him. “Is Mr. Thorton meeting with the client he mentioned last
night?”
“Yes. Mr. Evan Murray, Vice Chairman of the Noventra Group. His company recently acquired a plot of land in Eldoria and is
planning to commission our team to design a landmark
building.”
Hearing Nathan’s explanation, Adelaide looked surprised.
She had just arrived, and Reginald was already assigning her
such an important project.
Nathan encouraged her, “Ms. Pierce, this is right in your

comfort zone. Mr. Thorton only assigns this to you because he
knows this is a win–win. He keeps personal and professional
matters separate. Don’t worry.”
Adelaide gave a slight smile and thanked him. They spoke no
more. Nathan led her to the table and then left.
“Mr. Thorton. Mr. Murray,” she greeted them politely.
“Have a seat,” Reginald said. Adelaide quietly pulled out her
chair and sat down.
Evan had already looked her over several times. “Mr. Thorton,
this must be one of your newly hired designers.”
Reginald’s lips curved into a smile. “Mr. Murray, you know I
don’t hire lightly.“”
The implication was clear: If he brought a new designer to the
table, he must have absolute faith in her abilities.
Evan even read something else from Reginald’s face: Refuse her,
and you’ll regret it.
Evan cleared his throat before asking, “Mr. Thorton, would it be
all right if I chatted with Ms. Pierce alone for a bit?”
