Chapter 16
Hearing this, Adelaide abruptly looked up at him.
She finally noticed that he was in a bad mood.
“Since we’re not meeting the client now, should I get out of the
car?” Adelaide asked.
Reginald leaned his arm on the car window, rested his face on
his hand, and said casually, “Ms. Pierce, do you remember the
extra terms of the agreement?”
Adelaide kept her cool and said, “Yeah, I remember. But Mr.
Thorton, you just said we’ll meet the client another day!‘
“We’ll meet the client another day, but I didn’t say there aren’t
other plans for you.”
Adelaide was kind of speechless. “Then what else do you want,
Mr. Thorton?”
“Sit properly.”
Adelaide didn’t understand what he was going to do but could
only obey. She sat properly by the car door. At that moment,
her phone rang. She took it out. It was Garrett calling.

Reginald said in a deep voice, “No phone calls in my car. Not for
anyone.””
Adelaide was silent. She simply muted her phone and put it
back in her pocket.
Even if he hadn’t said it, she wouldn’t have answered.
Seeing she didn’t answer right away, either by choice or because
of his words, Reginald was in a better mood.
The phone, on silent, kept buzzing in Adelaide’s pocket till they
reached Rosecliff Manor.
Rosecliff Manor…
Just the name made Adelaide’s heart clench. She kept her cool,
got out of the car, closed the door, and said, “Mr. Thorton, if you
need to rest, I’ll head back.”
“Are you going to show up at Orvenix Group tomorrow with a
swollen face?” Reginald teased.
“I’ll ice it when I get back and put on makeup tomorrow,”
Adelaide said.
Reginald insisted, “Do you need me to come over and hold your
hand, or are you going to walk in yourself?”
Adelaide was kind of speechless. Again, under Reginald’s

dominance, she chose to go inside on her own.
After all, she knew Reginald could do whatever he wanted.
Once inside, the butler, Draven Rowe, brought over the ice pack
he had prepared earlier. Reginald tilted his chin. “Give it to her.”
Adelaide took the ice pack. “Thanks.”
Draven smiled, “Don’t mention it.” With that, he took the
servants and left, giving them some space.
Adelaide held the ice pack and applied it silently, trying to
figure out how to get out of there.
“When are you getting a divorce?” Reginald suddenly asked.
Adelaide paused at the words.
His eyes narrowed a bit, and a cold smile crept onto his face.
“You haven’t figured out the divorce, Adelaide? If so, why are
you hitting on me?”
“There’s a cooling–off period for divorce.” Adelaide continued
icing her face. “And Mr. Thorton, you got one thing wrong. We
had an agreement. If I lost, I’d willingly join your design team. I
lost the bet, and I’ll keep my promise. I didn’t hit on you on
purpose!”
“Fair enough.” Reginald nodded casually, his tone dragging out
again. “But you know I like you.”

Adelaide’s eyes flickered, her mind a bit flustered.
“Fine, take your time. I don’t mind being the other man,” said
Reginald.
Adelaide was stunned by his outrageous words. “Reginald, do you even know what you’re saying?”
Hearing her call his name in a panic, Reginald smirked, clearly amused. “Scared? Let’s just do it fast. It’s just a divorce. It won’t
kill you.”
Adelaide almost rolled her eyes. “Thanks a lot
Reginald chuckled, his shoulders shaking a bit. “You’re
welcome. I just want you to get out of this miserable situation
soon.”‘
