Chapter 13
“Dad, think it over. Bye now!” With that, she turned and walked
out.
Finley didn’t stop her.
Outside the study, Adelaide let out a sharp breath.
They forced her into this and tried to use her. She had to stay
ahead of them and strip away whatever value they thought she
had.
Expressionless, she headed upstairs, straight to her room.
The divorce had to wait. First, she had to break away from the
Pierce family. That way, she could make the most of it.
She hoped to cut off both Garrett and the family all at once.
Halfway up the stairs, her phone buzzed.
It was Reginald.
She answered, keeping her voice low. “Hello, Mr. Thorton.”
“Hey, new colleague. Did I catch you at a bad time?” His voice
was slow and teasing like he was having fun with it.

Adelaide blinked, thinking, “Does he talk to everyone like this,
or just me?”
“Nope,” she said evenly. “I don’t start until tomorrow. You’re
jumping the gun.”
“Just getting you used to it.”
She got the feeling this call wasn’t really about anything.
Then suddenly, a moan echoed from the corridor.
Adelaide’s grip tightened on the doorknob. Her eyes snapped
toward Amanda’s bedroom.
Reginald heard it too. “Ms. Pierce, did I interrupt something?”
“If that’s what you think, sure. But I gotta go.” Adelaide hung up right away. Before she knew it, she was moving toward
Amanda’s room.
The breathy, shameless sounds got louder.
She reached the door, which was left ajar. Inside, Amanda and
Garrett were making out.
Amanda was pressed against the wall, arms around his neck, letting him kiss her chest.
She noticed Adelaide standing there. Raising a brow, she turned

her flushed face toward Adelaide with a smug look.
Adelaide’s breath caught in her throat.
She knew Amanda was waiting for her to push the door open
and lose it, but she didn’t.
Instead, she stayed silent, turned around, and walked away.
Amanda’s eyes turned fierce when she saw this.
“How could this bitch still endure it?” thought Amanda.

Back in the bedroom, Adelaide stood in front of the sink,
bending over and vomiting uncontrollably.
Even though she couldn’t throw up anything, she still felt like
she needed to.
How dare Garrett mess around with Amanda right in the
Pierce’s place!
If all the beautiful memories with Garrett could be turned into
paper, she would shred them all without hesitation.
At that moment, her phone buzzed.
Adelaide leaned against the sink, took out her phone, and saw it
was a message from Reginald.
Chapter 13:
Reginald: “Since I messed up your business, let’s stop dragging it
out. Come out and meet a client with me.”
Adelaide: “Mr. Thorton, I haven’t officially started working yet.”
Reginald: “The agreement was signed last night and took effect
immediately, Ms. Pierce.”
Adelaide was rendered speechless.
“Is he really into me?” Adelaide began to doubt. “Maybe not. He
probably just wants to coax me into joining Orvenix Group and
make me his subordinate.””
Just then, the door to her bedroom opened.
Adelaide calmly and quickly put her phone into her pocket.
When she looked up, she saw Amanda standing outside.
In an instant, her eyes turned cold.
Because of her silence, Amanda was furious and provoked,
“Adelaide, why are you so thick–skinned? Garrett made out
with me, and you can still endure it?”
Seeing this, Adelaide laughed, “Oh, so this is your trick. You
hope I’m the one to bring up divorce first, right?”
Amanda stood in front of her, yanked open her collar to reveal several hickeys, and sneered, “If Dad hadn’t called him, I

would’ve definitely dragged him to my bed to finish what we
started.”
