Chapter 9
“Adele!” Spencer’s voice shook. He couldn’t believe Adelaide would suddenly do something so crazy.
Adelaide stepped back, pointing at the door with her other hand. “Take your cake and get out!”
“You’re not the type to act on impulse,” Spencer said, his brows furrowed.
As soon as he finished speaking, thin trails of blood began to seep from Adelaide’s neck. Her face remained expressionless as she asked, “Still think I’m acting on impulse?”
Spencer clenched his teeth, finally giving up. He picked up the cake. “Alright, we’ll talk when you calm down. Adele, you’ll
understand sooner or later. Anyone can hurt or deceive you,
but not me. I’ll only ever be good to you.”
“Get out!” Adelaide glared at him and growled.
The moment he stepped out of the room, she slammed the door
shut and locked it from the inside.
Adelaide took a few quick, deep breaths to calm herself down. Then she put the knife down and turned to find a band–aid to
cover the cut.
Chapter 9
If it weren’t for Spencer’s pushing, she wouldn’t have ended up hurting herself. Now, she was more determined than ever to take good care of herself and avoid any messy situations.
Once she was sure Spencer had left, she packed all her stuff into
the car.
She didn’t waste a second and drove straight to the Sterling Estates. There were lots of different apartment styles, but when
she got to the floor of the apartment Reginald had given her, she
realized it wasn’t just a regular apartment–it was a big, spacious
place with its own elevator.
After she moved her things in, she saw Rosecliff Manor on the
hillside from the study window.
She had a complicated look on her face.
Reginald’s intentions were way too obvious.
After she got everything settled, Adelaide went to the
supermarket to pick up some stuff. Then she got in her car and
headed to the Valmora Group.
She pulled over on the side of the road and called Garrett.
The call was answered right away, and his deep, husky voice
came through. “Honey.”
Adelaide was about to say something when she noticed that
Chapter 9
Garrett’s voice sounded off. She asked on purpose, “Are you in a
meeting?”
“Yeah” Garrett took a deep breath to make his voice sound
normal. “I’m afraid I’m gonna be busy today. Can we talk when I
get back home tonight?”
Adelaide closed her eyes. The gross stuff she saw last night
popped into her head again.
She couldn’t stand the idea of talking about their divorce right
after he had sex with Amanda.
She was afraid the smell would make her gag.
“Alright, let’s talk tonight.” Adelaide quickly hung up the phone,
feeling disgusted. Even though her hands weren’t dirty, she
wiped them hard and deleted the call log from just now.
That made her feel a little less gross.
When she started the car, she called her bestie Teresa Sampson.
“Tess, are you at the store? I’m coming right over.”
At the same time, in Garrett’s office.
After he was done, he pulled up his pants with a straight face, the lustful look from moments ago completely gone.
“Alright, you can go now!”
Chapter 9
Amanda’s cheeks were flushed, and her eyes were still watery.
“Garrett, you’re so heartless. You wanna kick me out right after
we’re done?”
Garrett glanced at her. “As my sister–in–law, you’ve been in my
office for so long. Don’t you think people will talk? If those rumors reach Adele’s ears, I won’t let you off the hook.”
