Chapter 42
[November 8, 2021: After waiting three days, Dylan finally came back. I couldn’t wait to tell him the truth about what happened back then, but he didn’t believe me.
[He even mentioned that Chloe had already told him about me–how I was always competing with her back in school, how I used to lie all the time.
[She even warned him ahead of time that if I ever found out she was the one who saved him, I’d probably shamelessly lie and try to steal the credit.
[Chloe knew when and where Dylan was rescued, and what he was wearing that day. The only thing he remembered–a yellow dress–now belonged to
Chloe.
[So, no matter what I say, it sounds like I’m the one lying. There’s no way to prove I was the one who saved him.]
[November 21, 2021: After thinking it over for a few days, I’ve finally figured it out: Love that’s built on a sense of gratitude isn’t real.
[I’ll show him how good I am and make him fall for me for who I am. That’s what real love is. I’m going to do everything I can to win his heart.
[People online say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. Starting today, I’m going to learn how to cook.]
The next dozens of entries were all about Olivia learning to cook and adjusting recipes to suit Dylan’s taste.
[January 5, 2024: After more than thirty attempts, I finally came up with a stomach–soothing herbal tea that’s perfect for him. He hasn’t frowned in stomach pain since–and I was even happier than he was.]
Olivia turned off her phone screen and looked at Julian, her expression blank. “Do you believe me now?” she said calmly. “I’ve always loved him. I just pretended not to. I’m good at pretending.
“I’ve waited so many years for him. Now that he’s finally willing to have a child with me, there’s no way I’m letting this chance slip by. I’m going to build a real life with him, so I don’t want to have anything to do with you anymore.”
Juliam pressed his lips together, his eyes bloodshot, looking like his whole world was about to fall apart.
He always thought her marriage was just for show, that there were no real feelings between her and her husband. He never imagined she actually loved her husband this much.
Their two weeks together couldn’t even begin to compare to the years she’d spent loving her husband. He was just a tool she used to get back at her husband.
“You lied to me,” Julian said hoarsely. “I told you I didn’t want to be some filler in your marriage. And you said you didn’t have feelings for him-”
Olivia let out a short laugh. “You believed a client’s lies? Aren’t you a little too naive?”
Julian wasn’t ready to give up. “You said you couldn’t have kids. So how could he possibly give you one?”
Olivia’s eyes flickered. She replied, “I’m not infertile. I just have some health issues that make it hard to conceive.
“But if I take care of myself and get my body back in shape, I can get pregnant. For him, no matter how hard it is, I’ll do it. I’ll have his child.”
Annoyed, she got up, grabbed some clothes from the closet, and went to the bathroom to change. When she came out, Julian was still leaning against the vanity mirror, head down, a heavy gloom hanging over him.
She shot him a glance and walked toward the door without saying anything.
“Was there ever a moment when you actually had feelings for me?” Julian asked.
Olivia stopped in her tracks. The air went still. Then she replied, calm and unruffled, “No. I could never fall for an escort.”

Julian whispered, “What if I wasn’t-”
Olivia cut him off. “There are no ‘what ifs.‘ Love is a spark between souls–it doesn’t come with all those conditions.” With that, she walked out of the
room.
She’d come here hoping for some peace and quiet, but Julian’s arrival completely threw her off. She’d rather go back and deal with that idiot Dylan than stay here and watch Julian’s heartbroken expression.
To be more precise, she didn’t dare stay. She was afraid that if she stayed long enough, her resolve would waver.
Her feelings for Julian weren’t as deep as what she once had for Dylan, but it was not like she felt nothing at all. That goodbye kiss at the airport had already given her away.
Julian was handsome, had the perfect body, was incredibly thoughtful, and treated her like she was the center of his world–of course, she would fall for
him.
But she knew very well why she got involved with Julian in the first place. Now that her goal was achieved, she had to break things off with him.
Otherwise, if Julian ever found out she was pregnant, guessed the baby was his, and made a scene, her whole plan would go up in smoke.
Only she and Dylan could know the truth about the baby. And Dylan, for his grandfather’s sake, would never breathe a word–he’d even help her cover it up. As for herself, she’d never let anyone find out.
It wasn’t easy to cut off a budding relationship, but it wasn’t impossible either.
Julian followed Olivia all the way to the parking garage.
As she was about to get in her car, he grabbed her arm and said in a low and desperate voice, “I don’t want your money. I’ll stay with you for free… No, I’l pay you. Don’t cut ties with me, okay?”
Olivia pulled her hand back and said indifferently, “That’s not necessary. My husband would be disappointed if he found out. He finally gave me another chance, and I don’t want to risk anything.” She got into the car and drove off.
She drove around for a bit to clear her head before heading home. As soon as she walked through the front gate of the villa, she was greeted by a nauseatingly sweet voice coming from the living room.
“Baby, why aren’t you eating? You told me on the phone you hadn’t had dinner, so I rushed over to cook for you. I put so much effort into it, but you’ve barely touched it.
“Ohhh, I get it! You want me to feed you with my mouth, don’t you? I’ll do it right now,” Chloe said.
Olivia felt goosebumps all over. As she walked inside, she glanced over toward the dining room.
Chloe was holding a chip between her lips, leaning in toward Dylan.
Dylan frowned, looking reluctant. He was about to push Chloe away, but the moment he caught sight of Olivia, he immediately changed his mind.
He slipped an arm around Chloe’s waist and took the chip from her mouth with his own, all the while sneaking glances at Olivia out of the corner of his eye to see how she’d react.
Olivia coolly looked away and headed upstairs.
A trace of disappointment flickered in Dylan’s eyes.
Just then, Chloe plopped herself onto his lap and pressed her body against his. She gave him a sultry look, then leaned in and brushed her lips against
his.
Dylan snapped out of it and shoved her so hard she fell to the floor.

Chloe squealed. “Honey, what are you doing?”

Dylan’s expression was stormy. He pulled Chloe up and said in a low voice, “I just remembered I still have some work to finish. I’ll be in the study. You clean up here and head home when you’re done.”
Chloe bit her lip. “It’s so late. I’m scared to go back alone. Can I stay the night? Please, baby.”
Dylan thought for a moment and then said, “Alright, you can stay.”
Chloe’s face lit up with joy. “Thank you, honey. So, where am I sleeping tonight?”
Dylan replied half–heartedly, “Wherever you want.” With that, he strode upstairs. But instead of heading to the study, he went straight to the master bedroom where Olivia was.
He looked at her and sneered, “You really think if you throw a tantrum and refuse to cook for me, no one else will? Please. There are plenty of women dying to cook for me.”
