Chapter 8
The most fucked up part? My sister–the one who never gave a rat’s ass about anything–showed up at my place the
second I left.
Then Mom opened the door, and my big sis immediately grabbed her arm and got right to it: “Mom, you get that accident insurance for my sister and her family yet?”
My mom was totally confused and went, curious. “The hell would I waste money on that garbage for? Isn’t that just a
scam?”
My sister let out this dramatic sigh like she was dealing with a complete idiot, then dropped a bomb that made my blood run cold.
She straight–up claimed she’d been reincarnated–that in her past life, Mom deliberately cranked the gas on, causing this massive leak that killed her ass when she just happened to be crashing at my place that day.
But Mom tried brushing it off, saying it was bullshit and my sister probably just had some crazy nightmare. But then my sister hit her with the real zinger: “So what, you’re planning to use the gas to off my sister’s husband and kid,
huh?”
That shut Mom up real fucking quick.
My sister kept hammering away until Mom finally lost it and started bawling.
“If I really killed you in that other life, then I’m going straight to hell for that shit,” she sobbed. “I swear to God I wouldn’t have done it on purpose.”
My sister waved her hand like she was swatting a fly. “Ancient history,” she said, then dropped her voice super low: “Mom, why the hell would you just kill those two? We really need to get rid of my sister and the little one. But keep the brother–in–law breathing–if too many people drop dead at once, cops are gonna be all over that shit.”
!
Mom shot that down in a heartbeat. “No fucking way! My middle daughter stays alive. If she kicks the bucket, who’s gonna wipe my ass when I’m old? When I can’t even drag myself out of bed, I need somebody to clean up my shit and spoon–feed me, don’t I?”
Jesus fucking Christ. Me being alive wasn’t some accident–it was all part of the plan. My mother had this whole scheme worked out to suck me dry till I dropped.
My sister’s laugh got even more twisted.
“Mom, are you dumb as rocks? Get insurance on all their asses first, make yourself the beneficiary. When they have their little ‘accident,‘ that insurance/money will keep you living like a queen.”
“You think with all that cash you couldn’t hire someone to kiss your ass 24/7?”
Mom went quiet, chewing on this for a minute before finally nodding. “Fine, I’ll do whatever the hell you say. I’ll call your sister right now and get her back here.”

Chapter 8
The second she finished saying this, Mom was already grabbing her phone and punching in my number.
Even watching this shit through a screen, seeing them plotting to kill me in real time had me sweating bullets.
I let it ring twice before I got my shit together enough to answer.
“Rebecca, you still home? If you are, get your ass back here now.”
“Listen up, I bumped into this fortune teller today. Guy said you absolutely can’t travel today or some serious shit’s gonna go down. You need to get back here now.”
I gripped my phone so hard my knuckles went white, trying to keep my voice from shaking. “Mom, I already bounced. I’m sitting on the high–speed train right now. No way I can turn around. How about I feed my boss some bullshit excuse tomorrow morning and head back then?”
Mom didn’t say jack at first. Instead, she shot a look at my sister, who was nodding her head like a damn bobblehead.
“Yeah, that’ll work,” she finally said. “Grab an early ticket tomorrow and haul ass back here.”
