Chapter 13 Have You Slept with Him?
That night, I didn’t go home.
I curled up on a hospital bench and slept through the night.
The next morning, I woke up with a high fever.
My phone was silent all night. Marcus didn’t call me even once.
Sitting on the bench, I called Nick and told him, “I’ve made up my mind about studying abroad.”
Nicholas sensed something was off in my voice and asked worriedly, “Maddy, are you sick?”
“Yeah, I got caught in the rain yesterday, and now I have a bit of a cold.”
“Where are you? I’ll bring you some medicine, Nicholas said anxiously.
asked desperately, “Nick, if I submit my application today, how soon can I leave the country?”
At that moment, I had bad feelings that if I didn’t leave soon, I might die.
Probably died at Marcus’s hands.
I wanted to live and get far away from Marcus.
My departure will mark: the end of everything.

“If we make the application now, you’ll get a response in two months. I’ll ask the professor to expedite it. Once the notification comes through, I’ll book your flight.” Nicholas asked worriedly, “Is your cold really bad? Should I come get you?” It’s okay, Nick. I’m at the hospital. Thank you.”
I thought that I could leave the city forever and escape this place and Marcus in two months.
After hanging up, I left the hospital.
Walking through the alley outside the hospital, I felt lost, not knowing where to go.
We sold the house after my parents died in a car accident and used their insurance to pay off our debts. Apart from Flynn’s, I lud no place to stay.
I didn’t even know where my home was.
Feeling dizzy, I found a corner to sit in and leaned against the wall, falling asleep again.
I didn’t know how long I slept. When I woke up, I found a coat covering me. Though old, it had been washed carefully. Looking around, the alley was empty.
As I got up, I saw some sandwiches wrapped in a plastic bag next to me.
I smiled bitterly and felt helpless. Someone must have mistaken me for a beggar.
A beggart
Maybe I was.
Marcus once told me, “You live in my house, eat my food; use my things. How are you different from a beggar?”
We were the same.
I folded the kind person’s jacket neatly and placed it in a clean spot, along with the sandwhiches.

If that person returned, I hoped he would take them.

Supporting myself against the wall, I took a few steps and felt a presence behind me. Turning around, I saw a tall, hooded figure slip away.
Without thinking much, I walked out of the alley and hailed a cab.
When I returned to the mansion, Marcus was there too.
“Marcus, where’s Maddy? Why isn’t she back yet? She didn’t come home all night,” Bernice Flynn said worriedly.
“She’s a grown woman. She won’t die, will she?” Marcus replied in annoyance.
Standing outside, I watched Marcus’s annoyed expression and sighed..
“Ms. Maddy, someone’s here to see you. He says his name is Nicholas, your senior,” the maid told me when she saw me standing outside.
I was startled and hurried to see him.
Why was Nick here?
“Nick… “I saw Nicholas standing at the door with some medicine.
“I brought you medicine,” Nicholas said with a smile.
Grateful, I reached out to take it.
“Our family isn’t so poor that we need you to bring cold medicine.” Marcus’s cold voice came from behind.
i.didn’t know when he had come out, but as soon as he was near, I tensed up.
“Marcus, Maddy has a cold. There’s no need to be so sarcastic, Nicholas said with a frown.
“Haha, she’s sick! What’s that got to do with you? Who are you to her? Why do you care so much? Have you slept with her?” said Marcus deliberately, trying to disgust me.
I looked at Marcus with red eyes and questioned, “And what do I have to do with you? What gives you the right to speak to my friend like that?”
