Chapter 9
Drawing on memories from my previous life, I perfectly timed the rise of short dramas, securing the rights to several popular shows. The profits rolled in, filling my bank account to the brim.
It wasn’t long before Coco came crawling to me, begging for an opportunity. Out of respect for Gary, I cast her in a supporting role. Unfortunately for her, it was a typical feel–good drama where the vicious supporting character got slapped by several people.
Gary brought Coco over with her face all swollen and bruised to thank me, and it took all my willpower not to laugh in their faces.
With hit after hit under my belt, I earned a nomination for Best Producer. On the night of the awards ceremony, I had just stepped out of my stretched Lincoln when I saw a familiar figure waiting by the red carpet.
“Wyn–Ms. Jennings, long time no see,” Jasper greeted me with a sycophantic smile, carefully lifting my dress for me. I glanced at him. The once glamorous scion of the
Swanson family looked tired and worn down after going bankrupt. His tall frame was now a
bit hunched.
He looked up at me eagerly. “I… I still have a patent. Would you be interested? Given our past, I’ll give you the best price!”
If I didn’t have my memories from my previous life, I might’ve actually been tempted. Even though the Swanson family’s patent still had a few years before it expired, there were
already competing products, and the technology was advancing quickly. Within two years, his patent would be obsolete.
If I used his outdated technology to develop products, I’d probably end up losing money and deep in debt within a few years. He must’ve thought I was an easy mark. However, if that patent was really valuable, it wouldn’t still be in his hands.
Before I could respond, the young man I’d brought as my date frowned and took a few steps

back in disgust. “Who’s this beggar, Wynne?”

Jasper’s expression didn’t change at all. It was as if life had worn down his sharp edges. “Mind your own business. This is between me and Ms. Jennings,” he said quietly.
But my date wasn’t having it. “Wynne’s business is my business. Who do you think you
are?”
Something stirred inside me, and I couldn’t help but press my lips to his glossy ones. The reporters nearby immediately swarmed us. “Ms. Jennings, is this your boyfriend?”
I smiled, tilting my date’s chin. “That depends on how well he behaves.” My date’s cheeks were flushed, and the reporters smiled knowingly. Their eyes were twinkling with mischief.

Jasper was pushed aside by the reporters. His face paled as he watched this scene. In the end, he turned and walked away with his shoulders slumped. Meanwhile, I swept my gown aside and stepped into the spotlight, where flowers and applause awaited.
A few days later, a news headline went viral: “Supporting Actress Coco Young Found Naked and Dead in Rental Apartment.”
I was shell–shocked and hadn’t even processed the news. Then, the cops called me. “Hello, is this Ms. Jennings? The prime suspect in this homicide insists they will only confess if you’re present.”
When I arrived at the station, I barely recognized the disheveled man in handcuffs. The moment he spotted me, he tried to break free from his handcuffs, yelling, “It’s all that bitch’s fault, Wynne! She ruined me! She has AIDS!
“Wynne, our baby died because of her! If it weren’t for her, we could’ve been happy…” Clutching his head, he broke down in tears.
No wonder I felt something was off about him that night on the red carpet. That had to be his last card to play–selling me that worthless patent. Now that he was out of options, all
he could do was take his anger out on Coco.

I let out a mirthless chuckle and responded apathetically, “You’re the one who killed our baby and sealed your own fate, Jasper. Everything you’re going through now is just the consequences of your actions.”
Before he could respond, I turned to leave. Behind me, I heard the sound of breaking glass.
“Help! The suspect has taken his own life!”
I left the police station in high spirits. Business overseas was booming, so I made the decision to move the company headquarters to New Avalon City. From the top of Crownspire Building, the, sunset painted the city in warm, golden hues.

All of a sudden, my phone rang; it was a call from Valerie. Her voice sounded worn and
aged. “Wynne… I was cleaning Jasper’s room, and I found something he left for you. I’ll bring it to you-”
“That won’t be necessary, Madam Morrison,” I said, cutting her off. “The past should stay in the past.” Before she could respond, I hung up and looked out at the city stretching out
before me.
My future was nothing but radiant.
