Chapter 10
In the days that followed, life got busy. I stopped hearing much about Roderick and
Francesca.
According to the media, Francesca was sentenced to life in prison. It was the ending she
deserved.
Later, Roderick came to see me again. “Sav, I know I went too far back then. The truth is, I
just couldn’t accept it at the time.”
As he spoke, he pulled out the contract he had signed with Francesca. He then added, “The agreement was for six years. The reason I asked you to come back was that my arrangement with Francesca was about to end.
“I’ve had time to think, and I want you back. I finally understand how I feel about you. I—”
“Stop. That’s enough,” I cut him off. “Roderick, I should be thanking you for what you did.
If it hadn’t happened, I never would’ve seen your true colors.
“You didn’t love Francesca, and you didn’t love me either. The only person you’ve ever cared about is yourself.
“You wasted six years of a woman’s life just to keep your company afloat. So tell me, why do you want me back now?”
Roderick’s lips parted slightly, but no words came. All I could see was regret.
“I just wanted to make things right—” he began.
“Don’t bother. It’s too late. What’s done is done. I don’t care anymore.”
With that, he left, looking utterly heartbroken.
Some time later, Roderick called me again. He told me he had been diagnosed with cancer

and had been hospitalized.
“Savannah, I made a will. Everything I own is yours.”
I simply said, “I don’t need any of it.”
I was doing just fine on my own. At the very least, I could cover the daily expenses for
myself and Danny.
Whatever Roderick’s reasons were, I didn’t want anything more to do with him.
Nevertheless, he called again. This time, his voice was noticeably weaker.

“Savannah, I regret everything. I should’ve said yes when you confessed your feelings to me. I never should’ve signed that contract with Francesca.”
I chuckled lightly. “I never confessed my feelings to you. In fact, I never even planned to.”
He had only known about it because he had read my journal. But it was something I never intended for him to see. That was his own mistake.
Besides, I had already paid the price for those foolish feelings.
Roderick fell silent. And honestly, I had nothing left to say either. So, I hung up.
Just like that, he never called again.
One day, I received news of Roderick’s passing. At first, I felt dazed. However, the feeling passed just as quickly.
Curtis told me that Roderick had hoped I would attend the funeral.
I shook my head and said, “No. There’s no reason for me to go.”
He was the one person from my past I wanted to forget. And now, I had a new life.

A few days later, a lawyer reached out to me.

“This is Mr. Campbell’s will. He left all his real estate and savings to you, Ms. Lloyd. That includes his stocks and bonds. You can choose whether or not to accept them,” he
explained.
For a moment, I hesitated, unsure of what to do.
Seeing that, the lawyer added, “Ms. Lloyd, you’re the sole beneficiary. Someone else has
taken over the company. The rest of the assets are more than enough to provide a future for you and your child.”
His words snapped me out of it. Ultimately, reality left little room for hesitation. I had to
think about Danny’s future.
Once I made up my mind, I signed the papers.
And at that moment, I knew that things between Roderick and me were finally over.
