Chapter 69
It seemed her daughter wasn’t foolish enough to lose someone who truly loved her.
As long as their relationship eased, she felt relieved.

Her tone softened a little. “I heard from Chris that you’ve been very busy recently, still working on the resort project? Didn’t that settle a long time ago?”
Before the main course, Lia brought the soup, small bowls placed in front of the three of them.
Jessica took a sip of the soup to soothe her upset stomach before speaking. “Not just that, the resort project has already started progressing, plus there are other projects. The shareholders were unhappy about my recent scandal, so I have to find some profit for them. They keep bothering me every day.”
Mrs. Wilder snorted. “It’s because you went too far.”
The atmosphere between mother and daughter had been like this for years, and Chris had gotten used to it, always trying to smooth things over each time.
“By the way, Roy came to the company looking for me today,” Jessica lowered her head to drink soup without looking to the
side.
Chris was surprised.
“What’s it about?”
Jessica shook her head, “I don’t know. After you left, I was in meetings all day. Maggie said he came to the company but didn’t say he wanted to see me and left when he didn’t find me. I guess he must have some case that needs my help.”
“Then call him later, don’t delay important matters,” said Chris.
Mentioning Roy made Chris more anxious than anyone.
Mrs. Wilder wasn’t very familiar with this “Roy” they mentioned and guessed he was probably Chris’s friend.
Roy indeed had a tricky case and lacked enough professionals on hand.
He wanted to borrow Jennifer’s help since such a top hacker’s time wasn’t often available.
After dinner, they didn’t hurry to leave.
Since there was a room at home, they planned to stay for a day.
Jessica and Mrs. Wilder went into the study to discuss work.
Chris took a shower and sat in the living room watching TV, occasionally checking messages in the hospital group chat.
Most were gossip shared by the nurses, and he quickly scrolled through and closed it.
Lia brought a glass of milk over.
“Sir, here’s some milk.”
That afternoon, the butler had instructed Lia that Chris and Jessica were husband and wife, though currently divorced, but with the possibility of remarriage.
He had to be treated with respect.
Chris smiled at Lia. “Thank you.”
Lia blushed and quickly turned to leave.
In the study, Mrs. Wilder asked Jessica what their current situation was.

“If you really like Chris, then don’t let Michael appear again. The previous troubles were all caused by Michael. I absolutely won’t let a person like him set foot in the Wilder family.” Mrs. Wilder still held the dominant position with strong momentum Jessica leaned back in the soft chair, closed her eyes, and gave a non–committal hum.
“I heard you want to cooperate with the Hall family, and the shareholders liave complained to me, saying you’re abusing your power for personal gain.”
Hearing this, Jessica opened her eyes and looked at her mother with amusement.
Sure enough, Mrs. Wilder’s next sentence was, “I know you won‘ Your feelings for Michael won’t interfere with business. Even if you give Michael money for a car or house, you won’t use company affairs to help him.”
“Ah, a mother that really understands me.” Jessica leaned forward resting her elbows on the table and her chin in her hand.” These shareholders just like telling you gossip. They’re acting like women.”
The woman in front of her tapped the table.
“So, you’re not really still fond of Michael, are you? I told you years ago, Michael’s not a decent person. You didn’t believe me, went around in such a big circle, and dragged Chris into this misery with you.”
