Chapter 67
As long as his heart was with her, that was enough.
“Weren’t you curious about what Michael said to Chris?” asked Shannon while sitting opposite, binding documents, then looked up at Jessica.
“Chris’s temper had gotten worse. He even went through a divorce with you and ran off abroad.”
Jessica leaned back in her chair, rare to have a half–hour break, but she still had meetings to attend later.
“Michael just said some of our past to provoke Chris. There was no way around it, the past was the truth, and Chris knew it too.” “Are you really not going to tell Chris about your plan? I don’t think he’s that weak. He wouldn’t be scared away.”
Jessica thought for a moment and shook her head.
“It’s different. I know Chris won’t be afraid, but the business world is complicated. It’s not like his usual surgical system, you can’t just treat it with the right medicine. Each profession has its specialty, so better not let him get a headache over it too.”
Seeing Jessica’s insistence, Shannon didn’t say anything else, only sighed.
The Jessica Chris saw now was actually under a lot of pressure.
the Wilder Group was carrying enormous risks, and the case Roy was handling overseas was one of the major issues.
Michael returning to the Hall Group was just the first step.
Next, he would slowly swallow up the Wilder Group.
He wouldn’t succeed easily, he had to use his relationship with Jessica.
“Make sure Jennifer keeps a close watch. Recently, whenever Michael goes out, someone must follow him.”
Thinking of the missing woman, Jessica frowned again.
“A perfectly good person went missing. What use are you all?”
Having made a mistake, Shannon didn’t dare say more and quietly went out to arrange things.
During the meeting, the butler called to inform Jessica to come back to the the Wilder family’s residence for dinner.
It was Maggie who answered the call and only passed the message after work. Looking at the time, Jessica decided to buy Mrs. Wilder’s favorite dessert.
“By the way, Roy came by this afternoon but didn’t say he wanted to see you.”
Shannon knew Roy’s identity and knew Jessica had met him privately before.
At this, Jessica paused, turning to look at her.
She said, “Although he didn’t say he wanted to see you, Maggie said you were going to have a meeting for several hours, and he left right away. I guess he came looking for you.”
What did Roy want with her?
Other than that one time in the restaurant, they hadn’t met privately.
At Rose Manor, they only briefly crossed paths.
Jessica’s eyes shifted as a faint answer formed in her mind.
“Got it. Let’s get off work.”
Chapter 67
She didn’t have Roy’s number, so she still had to wait to hear from Chris to get in touch.
On the way, she bought Mrs. Wilder’s favorite dessert and drove home, feeling a little excited.
Before, she had only blamed Chris for asking her mother for money.
Later she found out those funds were never even used by Chris, he had even returned them before preparing to leave.
Actually, even if Chris had spent the money, she wouldn’t have minded.
Those words had hurt a lot.
Now thinking back, Jessica felt she had been excessive.
She would make it up to Chris properly in the future.
She would never say things like that to hurt the one she loved again.
Near the doorstep, her phone rang.
The central control screen showed Michael’s name.
She slammed the brakes and stopped by the roadside.
“Jessica, I cooked your favorite dishes. Want to come eat?” Michael’s voice was excited.
Jessica held her forehead, irritated but spoke apologetically.
“My mom asked me to go home.”
Michael was silent for a moment.
He had been attacked with Mrs. Wilder by Chris that afternoon, and now hearing about Mrs. Wilder, he was pissed.
