“Lower your voice,” said Jessica, looking into the distance without even glancing at Helen. “After you returned to the country, you hid all over the place, staying at the Cloud Hotel, thinking no one knew?”
“What exactly do you want…” Helen gritted her teeth. “I have already divorced Michael. Now the Giga Group belongs to Michael. If you have any issues, go to him. I only wanted to come back to see my daughter. Why are you clinging to me so tightly?”
“Were you really just here to see your daughter?” Jessica looked toward the operating room where the light was still on, speaking earnestly. “Or did you come back to get Michael to take care of you? You hold evidence against Michael, don’t you?”
These words frightened Helen, and for a moment, she didn’t know how to respond.
Jessica feigned exaggeration and smiled at her.
“Otherwise, why did your parents die after your family went bankrupt, and only you survived? Because you ran away, taking Michael’s evidence with you. Helen, you are much smarter than your parents.”
News of her parents‘ deaths had never been reported back home, otherwise, Michael marrying that girl and causing a family’s ruin would have tarnished his reputation.
The Jessica in front of her was the person Michael had been thinking about for five years since his marriage–not just her, but also the Wilder family.
Helen had thought Jessica would be the next version of herself, but now it seemed this woman was no pushover.
Inside the observation room, Shannon easily found Chris.
He was not a pediatrician, and he did not need to perform this kind of surgery.
He only stayed a bit longer because the patient inside was Jordan.
“Mrs. Green,” Shannon’s voice came from behind.
Chris was momentarily stunned, then turned around to see Shannon standing behind the chair, businesslike, with her hands crossed in front of her.
Chris stood up and took Shannon to the changing room.
“Why are you here as well?” asked Chris.
Shannon said, “Ms. Wilder wants me to tell you that you shouldn’t go out yet. That woman outside is best avoided.”
Chris sighed, uninterested in getting involved.
“I know. Since she claims to be Jordan’s biological mother, then she must be Michael’s ex–wife. It has nothing to do with me.”
Seeing Chris misunderstanding again, Shannon couldn’t help but say, “Ms. Wilder is protecting you!”
For five years of marriage, except for the first year when Jessica was indifferent, Chris was almost constantly under her protection.
Not letting Chris go to work was also to prevent anyone from sabotaging him through his job.
The last incident with the victim’s family was an example.
Chris frowned. “Protecting me?”
Shannon realized she had said too much, cleared her throat, but still stood straight and said, “Anyone connected to Mr. Hall is best avoided by you, sir. Ms. Wilder won’t even be going home for dinner today.”
“I understand.”

After saying this, Shannon checked on Jordan’s condition, gave Chris a profound look, and left the observation room.
The changing room was left with only him.
He sat on a chair, lost in thought.
He didn’t understand the business world and didn’t know what Jessica’s coldness toward him meant as protection.
He only knew that Jessica’s relationship with Michael wasn’t as simple as it seemed.
He had always been trapped in his own imagination, unable to break free, and only recently had started to wake up.
If Jessica didn’t love Michael so much, then everything she did must have a reason.
