Chapter 45
Chris smiled and shook his head, snatching the thermos back from Roy’s hand and tossing it to Jessica.
“If you want to take care of her, go ahead. I won’t disturb you.”
He pulled Roy back into the private room and closed the door.
Meanwhile, with Roy’s help, Jessica was in a good mood.
She hadn’t brought Michael to the drinking party, it was better that the head of the Fame Group didn’t see Michael.
Before things were settled, all the Hall family members could only put on a polite front.
Besides the private rooms, there were some scattered tables on the first–floor, usually serving a few walk–in customers at noon, but only up to ten tables.
At that moment, all were empty.
The two found a place to sit, and Michael asked the manager for a bowl.
He seemed completely unfazed by the earlier sarcasm, smiling with red–rimmed eyes as he helped Jessica serve the soup.
Jessica lowered her head and took two sips, not daring to drink more.
“The guy just now was Chris’s friend? He looked like he had a bad temper and even misunderstood your relationship with me. Hopefully, he won’t make Chris think too much.”
Now she secretly hoped Chris would think more, better than having no thoughts of her at all.
“That’s Roy.”
Jessica raised her head and saw the shock in Michael’s eyes, then deliberately asked, “Do you know him? He was originally the heir of the Felton family, but he chose a career in law enforcement, not business.”
Michael was greatly shocked deep down.
He wondered how Chris could know someone like that.
“Oh, that’s Roy? I’ve heard of him but never met him. I haven’t been back to the country in years and don’t know much about the domestic situation. They look very close–like brothers.” Michael sounded jealous. “You and Chris have clearly divorced, yet you still have to pretend for the Wilder Group’s sake..”
“Alright, alright. What’s there to be jealous about?” Jessica acted coy like they just started dating, holding Michael’s hand. “It’s all for the Wilder Group. I can’t just watch my mother’s lifelong effort collapse like this. Michael, I’m lucky to side.” 19

“What’s the matter with you?”
After closing the door, Roy forcefully pushed Chris into a chair, his voice turning cold
“Didn’t you say you divorced? Who’s that man? Looks like a homewrecker to me.”
Chris couldn’t help but laugh and poured Roy a cup of tea.
“You seem to know quite a lot.”
Roy wouldn’t let Chris change the subject.
“Hurry up and tell me. Don’t make me find out myself.”
He knew Roy’s skills—if he wanted to look into something, it wouldn’t take an hour.
“Alright, alright. He’s Jessica’s first love. Back then, it was because he went abroad that Jessica, heartbroken, married me. We

really are divorced. Recently, there was online gossip about her cheating. It doesn’t affect her image, but the Wilder Group was founded by her mother, and Mrs. Wilder treats me well. We are working together as partners now.”
Roy didn’t expect things to be so complicated. He clicked his tongue twice.
“You’re too naive, not suited to mix with the business world. I think Michael wants to take your place, are you going to just let him?”
Chris took a sip of tea himself.
“What else could I do? I can’t really turn down the divorce and remain as Jessica’s husband, can I? Would that disgust them or me? Forget it–I’ve already wasted five years.”
“Have you really thought it through? Why didn’t you go for the exchange study in Lonat then?”
Roy knew about that matter just as Chris had expected.
Chris didn’t hide anything either.
“The Wilder Group happened to be in trouble. Once it’s settled, I’ll leave. The internship opportunity at the Summit Infirmary is rare, and I want to gain experience. It’s good for me.”
Roy stared intently into Chris’s eyes, as if trying to see his true feelings.
