Chapter 37
“We’re still in a partnership. I just managed to suppress the trending searches. If you meet someone you shouldn’t and negative news breaks out again, what will happen to the Wilder Group? Chr, you can’t be this selfish.”
Chris, who had just been shoved into the car within seconds, was about to open the door when Jessica got in from the other side and locked it.
In the cramped space, only the two of them remained.
Chris turned back, a trace of anger in his eyes, and looked at Jessica with growing coldness.
“Wouldn’t it be perfect if I caused a scandal? You could announce the media that I cheated, then conveniently reveal our divorce. Not only would the Wilder Group’s image be preserved, but your relationship with Michael wouldn’t attract as much attention. If I remember correctly, that was the original plan from lie Wilder Group’s PR team, wasn’t it?”
Jessica was stunned.
It was true the most effective way to deflect public attention was to create a bigger distraction.
The PR department had initially suggested leaking a scandal about Chris.
But Jessica had refused.
She hadn’t expected Chris to know.
“So you knew everything from the beginning?” Jessica leaned back. “You knew I pulled you into this fake partnership as a cover, and you still went along with it. Chris, how dare you say that you don’t love me anymore.”
Chris looked somewhat drained. He didn’t rush to leave. Instead, he simply texted the real estate agent to reschedule their appointment.
“I love you.” He turned to face Jessica. “Jessica, I’ve always loved you. It’s just that this love has lasted so long, I’m exhausted. And with everything else… forget it. At this point, we’re already divorced. There’s no point in saying more. What I’ve never understood is–if you still have feelings for Michael, and we’re already divorced, why not just be with him?”
He had asked this many times, and still couldn’t understand.
Jessica had no answer.
That evening, she still took Chris out for dinner.
For once, the two of them didn’t argue.
Chris was unusually quiet, while Jessica kept paying attention to his expressions.
Even when she got a phone call halfway through, she hung up immediately.
Shannon had said that what Chris cared about was her attitude.
Whether or not she had figured things out, she needed to act like his wife in front of him.
Maintaining a long–term relationship really was exhausting. Jessica realized this far too late.
Shannon had found a nanny for Michael–someone to take care of his and Jordan’s daily needs.
This nanny even had a medical license, so she could immediately respond to Jordan’s illnesses.

But she wasn’t just a nanny–she was also Shannon’s planted informant.
Shannon was no ordinary woman.
She graduated from a top university and was discovered by Jessica even before Jessica inherited the Wilder Group.

In the industry, no one could rival her.
She even knew all about Jessica and Michael’s history.
That was exactly why she realized Michael wasn’t so simple.

“I got it. Just keep watching him. Be careful with any moves the Hal family makes. Michael has always been the heir of the Hall family. Even the arranged marriage was for their benefit. There’s no way he’d be kicked out that easily. I think something’s off.”
After hanging up the phone, Shannon glanced at the empty secretary’s office and sighed.
Love really made people stupid.
How could Jessica only now start seeing such an obvious problem?
She gathered her things and went to find Jessica.
They had a dinner arrangement that evening, and it was time to head over.
