Jessica immediately understood–Chris was trying to provoke Michael.
“Fine then, count it as me saying the wrong thing. You two carry on, I’m going back to sleep. I still have work tomorrow.” After saying that, Chris turned around and walked off without hesitation
Jessica quickly let go of Jordan and ran after him, pulling him aside Her expression was slightly cold. “Do you really have to say those things in front of Michael and Jordan?”
“Did I say something wrong?” Chris asked with a mocking smile. Actually, I’m really curious–if it weren’t for that phone call, what did you come to me for? Did you really miss me? Or… did you just want someone to keep you company?”
Chris’s sharp tongue left Jessica speechless for a moment. She didn’t want him bringing up these things in front of Michael.
What Shannon said earlier was right–she really needed to think about what she wanted, or rather, who she wanted.
Since Chris was doing everything he could to get divorced, if she made her choice, there was no need to keep clinging to him.
But until she figured it out, she couldn’t let Chris leave.
“Go back to sleep.” Jessica turned and walked away. “I’ll get Jordan hospitalized. Bring them breakfast tomorrow morning. Jordan wants milk.”
The next morning, Chris changed straight into his doctor’s overall and headed to the office.
This time, he skipped the internship period entirely. Several patients were already waiting outside early in the morning–he wasn’t going to waste time on Michael.
He just didn’t expect the first person to walk in would be the one he least wanted to see.
When Chris saw Michael’s name, a headache immediately struck.
“Where do you feel unwell?” Chris asked out of routine.
Michael rested one hand on the desk and stared at Chris in silence for a long moment before finally speaking. “Why do you keep haunting me like a ghost?”
“Shouldn’t I be the one asking you that?” Chris replied with sarcasm. “If you really had what it takes, you would’ve kept Jessica by your side. I wouldn’t keep getting dragged back by her. If you can’t do it, stop acting tough in front of me.”
“You think… I can’t?”
Chris was growing impatient. “Do you actually have a medical issue or not? If not, get out. I’ve got a lot of patients waiting.”
Michael stood up and suddenly leaned closer. Chris instinctively stepped back.
Michael’s eyes burned with intensity, and in them, Chris could already see a flash of murderous intent.
“Chris, you forced me into this.”
“What, you’re gonna kill me now?”
Even after Michael left, Chris remained disturbed by that look. He had to admit–Michael’s expression, full of hatred, really caught him off guard.
How had things ended up like this?
He had originally thought that after all these years, Jessica still couldn’t forget Michael. The two of them must still love each
other.
Chapter 35
If he just got divorced and stepped aside, everything would fall into place.
He would start a new life. Jessica and Michael would reunite after five years–what a beautiful picture that would be.
Even Jessica not wanting kids wasn’t an issue–Michael could just bring a daughter with him.
Everything was perfect.
So how had it come to this?
Chris massaged his temples and called for the next patient.
Around nine o’clock, Jessica finally left the hospital. She had stayed up the whole night and looked exhausted.

The moment Shannon saw her, she knew she hadn’t slept. The smell of disinfectant on her clothes made her think Jessica had gone to find Chris.
“So? Did you go see Mr. Green? Did you two have a talk?”
Jessica glanced at her. “Jordan had a fever. I stayed with her all night.”
Shannon’s expression stiffened. Why was Michael involved again?
