Chris hadn’t cared much about It. Fortunately, the footage of him getting out of the car with jessica that day had been handled. It
mostly showed side profiles and back views, so no one at the hospital knew about his relationship with her.
That day, Chris finally had a rare break. After several consecutive days of surgeries, he had been so exhausted that he could barely keep his eyes open. While Jessica went to the company, he had planned to catch up on sleep in the dormitory.
He had barely fallen asleep for an hour when the phone rang.
“Honey,”
Upon hearing that word, Chris had jolted awake, completely dazed He had instinctively replied with “Yes?” and had just been about to ask Jessica what was wrong when his brain finally rebooted and reminded him that they had already divorced.
“Didn’t you say you’d bring me lunch this afternoon? Are you on your yet?”
Last night, Jessica had lain beside him, sounding tired, and told him to go to the company the next day.

Apparently there had been a business partner visiting the company to discuss collaboration, and the other party had brought up personal questions about Jessica, possibly out of concern it might affect the brand image. Jessica had explained that her relationship with her husband was very good.
Clearly, it had been a performance.
Chris had gotten out of bed, holding his head. “I’m heading out now. Wait for me at the company.”
“Okay, honey.”
Jessica had hung up, fully satisfied.
There had been no time to go back and cook, so Chris had changed clothes again, gone out, and found a private kitchen restaurant to order a few of Jessica’s favorite dishes. He had packed them into lunchboxes.
He had figured she wouldn’t be able to tell the difference anyway.
When he had arrived at the company entrance, the receptionist had been a newcomer and didn’t recognize him, so she had stopped him from going upstairs.
Chris had been exhausted and hadn’t wanted to make things difficult for the newcomer, so he called Jessica.
“Honey, I’m downstairs. I still have to go back to the hospital later–could you come down and pick up the food?”
His voice had been gentle and patient. The receptionist had stared at him, dazed, wondering who had such good luck to have a considerate husband like Chris.
In the end, Shannon had come downstairs with Jessica, followed by quite a few people.
“Honey!” Jessica had immediately run toward him the moment she saw him, throwing herself into his arms.
Chris had frozen on the spot.
He had wanted to push her away, but couldn’t bring himself to do i
“You’re late,” Jessica said in a coquettish tone, like a girl in love–nothing at all like the tough businesswoman she usually was.
“Sorry, there was traffic.”
Jessica had pulled Chris over to introduce him to the business partners.
“This is my husband.”
Chris had reached out to shake hands with a few of them. “Hello, I’m Chris.”

Thank you for your trust in us.”
After sending the partners off at the door, Chris had stuffed the lunchbox Into Shannon’s hands and turned to leave. But Jessica hadn’t let go. “You’re already here, and I can’t finishra, this by myself. Stay and eat with me.”
“No.” Chris frowned, worried others might notice, so he hadn’t dared push her away. “I have work at the hospital,”
Jessica had refused to back down. She had wrapped her arms around his and dragged him into the elevator. “No matter how important work is, you still have to eat, right?”
As the elevator doors had closed, Chris had realized he was out of options.
Anyway, it had been his day off.
Once inside the office, Shannon had gone to organize documents, leaving just the two of them.
