Jessica kept her eyes focused on the road. “I’m married, how can we be together? Things are fine as they are, I can see him anytime.”
“Marriage can be followed by divorce. Besides, Chris is gone. If you’re not with Michael, does that mean you’ve fallen for Chris?”
Sophie’s question made Jessica slam on the brakes, causing Sophie to lean forward.
“Jessica, are you crazy?”
“Chris is gone? Where did lie go?”
Sophie paused, surprised that her sister didn’t know about this.
“I came home yesterday and overheard Mom talking to Chris on the phone. She asked him if he’d packed for his flight today.”
Jessica thought for a moment. The last time Chris was leaving, she had interfered at customs and blocked his passport. It had been over two weeks now, and his passport had been restored, so he could indeed leave.
Could he still be going to Desland?
Was he really going to be an exchange student?
Jessica frowned and asked Sophie, “What time is the flight?”
Sophie glanced at her phone, “There are still two hours before takeoff. I heard Mom say Chris wasn’t planning to come back. After studying abroad, he plans to stay there and develop a career. The two of you…”
“Take a taxi by yourself,” Jessica said to Sophie.
“What?” Sophie looked at the bustling street. “Where are you going?”
“I’m going to find Chris.”
Who said that he could leave?
Sophie was left confused in the middle of the road. She watched as Jessica’s car drove farther away. After a long pause, she finally called Chris.
At the airport, Chris was about to listen to a podcast to pass the time when he saw a call from Sophie.
He didn’t want to deal with anyone from the Wilder family, except for Linda. After letting the phone ring for a while, he hung up.
Soon, his phone buzzed with a message from Sophie.
“Don’t say I didn’t warn you, my sister is coming to get you. If you’re leaving, you’d better go quickly.”
Jessica was coming to find him?
Chris instinctively stood up and got ready to leave, but when he looked at the ticket in his hand, he realized he just had to board the plane. Once he escaped the country, everything would be fine.
He put on a mask and a hat, found a corner where he could see outside, and quietly waited. He was so tired he almost fell asleep, but then he saw a familiar figure.
Of course, Jessica didn’t come alone. A group of people followed her, several of them heading straight to the check–in counter.
Jessica stood in place and dialed Chris’s number.
Chris, of course, didn’t answer and turned off his phone.
In half an hour, he would be able to leave. He just had to endure that last half hour.

Twice now, he had been stopped by Jessica when he tried to leave and he really didn’t understand why she was doing this.
She clearly didn’t love him, they were clearly divorced, yet she still stubbornly wanted him to stay.
When he proposed the divorce, he had thought it through. He knew that Michael had returned, that Jessica still had feelings for him, and the two of them had gotten back together after many years. He was the mistake that would never be mentioned again, just a passerby.
Chris felt a pang of urgency in his heart, and his eyes began to water..
Why couldn’t she let him go?
Jessica’s people spoke with the staff at the check–in counter, and soon several of them came out to help look for him. Soon, they arrived at the lounge.
He kept his head down, terrified of being recognized.
“Are you… Mr. Green?” one of the flight attendants suddenly asked
Chris jumped up and ran.
