119 Chapter 119

Betrayed By Blood-

Avery froze

Her breath caught in her throat, her mind shortcircuiting as Cain’s lips pressed

against hers. Firm, demanding, possessive. It wasn’t a question. It wasn’t hesitant. It

was raw, desperate. It was different than anything Avery had ever felt

For a momentjust a momentshe forgot everything. The betrayal. The pain. The way he had hurt her over and over again. Because right now, with his warmth searing into her, his hands gripping her waist as if she was the only thing grounding him, she felt…. wanted. Like she was something more. Like she mattered

But then reality crashed back in

Avery’s eyes widened, and she shoved at his chest. Hard

Cain stumbled back slightly, his grip loosening

Avery’s breathing was ragged as she touched her lips, staring at him with wide dazed eyes. Whatwhat was that?she whispered, her voice barely above a breathless gasp

Cain didn’t answer. He just stared at her, his green eyes dark, unreadable. But his chest was rising and falling a little too fast

Avery shook her head, her pulse pounding. The memories of his rejection, of the way he had looked at her with nothing but contempt, came rushing back in full force. The way he had told her she was a mistake. That he didn’t want a mate. That he didn’t want

her

She swallowed against the lump in her throat, her vision blurring with unshed tears. No, don’t.She shook her head more firmly, taking a shaky step back. You shouldn’t kiss me like that. You said not to-”

Cain was at her front in a second, gripping her shoulders firmly, his gaze intense on her. I know what I said. I’m aware of what I said,he interjected

Avery stared at him, her eyebrows furrowed. Soso why? Why are you doing this?she whispered. You don’t want this. You don’t want me.”

Cain’s Jaw tensed. You think I don’t want you?”

Avery let out a sharp, bitter laugh. It’s not thinking if it’s something you’ve told me repeatedly. Her voice trembled, but she didn’t stop. You don’t want me. I’m a mistake. You hate me. You said all of that to me, so why now? Why are you doing this? Why are you making me confused? Her voice cracked at the end, and she hated it

Cain took a step toward her, and she instinctively took a step back until her back hit the door. Trapped again

He exhaled, dragging a hand through his hair. I didn’t want a mate. His voice was low, rough, like he was forcing the words out. I didn’t want this. But I can’t-He cut himself off, his eyes burning into hers. I don’t want to break the bond.”

Avery’s heart stuttered. Avery’s heart stammers. She searched his face, expecting cruelty, a trick, a game. But there’s nothing but raw, unfiltered truth in his eyes

But you-”

I don’t care what I said before,” Cain cut her off

He watched her, waiting for a reaction but got nothing. But Avery simply stared at him, her lips parted, her breathing uneven. She had no idea what to do, what to think, what to say. She felt tired. Bonedeep exhaustion settled into her limbs, pressing against her like a weight she couldn’t shake off

She looked down, swallowing hard. She looked at him again, lips parted to respond to say something but every train of thought went down the drain yet again as Cain leaned in again

This time, his kiss was different

It was slowachingly slow. Controlled. Every movement was deliberate, as if he was forcing himself to be gentle

Avery stiffened at first, her fingers curling into fists against his chest. But she didn’t push him away. His hand cupped the side of her face, his thumb brushing against her cheek in a way that sent shivers down her spine. The warmth of his lips, the way he moved against hers, it was intoxicating. It made her knees weak

Avery hated it. Hated him for making her feel this way. And yetAvery melted against him, just for a second

His grip tightened just slightly, his other arm wrapping around her waist. His lips moved over hers with a tenderness she never expected from him. Avery’s body betrayed her

Her hands, once curled into fists, slowly flattened against his chest

And that was when exhaustion hit her like a wave

Her body felt heavy. Her mind sluggish. She swayed, and Cain Immediately pulled back. Avery? He called out to her

She blinked up at him, trying to stay upright, but her body had reached its limit.

Cain didn’t give her a chance to protest. He lifted her effortlessly and carried her to the bed. Avery tensed up, a sharp gasp escaped her lips. I can walk-”

You’ll sleep here,he stated simply, placing her down with such surprising gentleness

that it caught her off guard

Cain-”

Sleep.” His tone left no room for argument

Avery, too drained to fight, exhaled shakily before closing her eyes. She falls asleep quickly, her breathing slow and steady. But Cain, He doesn’t move

He simply stared at her

Watches the way her lashes fluttered slightly. The way her lips are slightly parted. The way her fingers subconsciously grip the sheets, as if reaching for something. His chest. tightened only a little, his wolf bristling underneath his skin as though blaming him

For the first time, he realized how small she is compared to him. w delicate

For the first time, he wondered how he ever thought he could push her away. He wondered how much damage he’d caused her.

Avery in her sleep whined slightly and he reached out to touch her but stopped himself. Instead, he clenched his fists, his jaw tightening. Not yet

He walked away from the bed and towards the door, he stopped for a second, turning to look at her once more before shutting the lights off and stepped out of the room
