Chapter 45
Cassian
“What about Moonlight? Did you find out his identity? Where’s the security footage I requested?”
Liam shakes his head. “Yeah, about that. The whole floor where Moonlight entered and worked has no footage. It’s not just wiped…it was never there.”
Shock surges through me. “What do you mean?”
“I mean it’s like all those cameras were powered down for about two hours that day. There’s no record of anything.”
I curse. Could Moonlight really be that good?
“There is one thing though,” Liam says. “I’ve heard from the Giancarlo Pack Beta that his Alpha has also hired Moonlight for some work. The hacker’s agents let one thing slip.”
I lean forward in my chair. Any information about Moonlight has been impossible to come by. If not for the fact that they unearthed my mole, I might not believe they exist.
“What is it?” I ask.

Chapter 45
“Moonlight is a woman.”
I raise my brows. It’s not much, but if it’s true, it narrows the list of potential suspects by more than half.
“Interesting,” I say. Then, “Liam, get ahold of the Giancarlo Beta. I want the contact information for Moonlight’s agents. I think I might need to hire a hacker, myself.”

When I get home from dinner that night, I see the message icon on my tablet flashing. I tap to open it and laugh when I see who it’s
from.
“Moonlight,” I read out loud, “I’m an agent working for Alpha
Blackwell. My boss wants to hire you. I’ll pay ten times your market rate.”
I snort, because the arrogance is so obvious, and the slip of saying “I’ll pay” instead of “he’ll pay.”
This isn’t an agent. It’s Cassian, himself.
I smile.

This is going to be fun.

I click my tablet’s keyboard into place and settle on the couch, already laughing to myself. My fingers fly over the keys, tapping
out a message.
MOONL16H7: Sorry. I’m not interested in a project for Cassian
Blackwell.
I wait a minute, chewing on my thumb and grinning. Moonlight is the perfect mask for me to be as sassy as I ever wanted to be with Cassian.
Let him see what it’s like to be the person who has to beg, for
once.
User3560486: Why is that?
He types back almost immediately. He’s invested in this.
MOONL16H7: Not a fan.
It’s a long time before the little box at the top of the screen says typing… again.
User3560486: You don’t know him. How can you be sure?
MOONL16H7: You have no idea whether or not I know him. He

doesn’t even know.

User3560486: A man like Cassian Blackwell would know if he met someone as talented as you.
I laugh out loud. “Goddess, Cassian Blackwell. Is there another human being on earth as arrogant as you?”
MOONL16H7: Listen, man, I know what kind of world you move in, but flattery isn’t my thing.
User3560486: Facts aren’t flattery.
MOONL16H7: Whatever you say.
User3560486: Are you going to take the job or not?
I snicker a little. I can feel his patience wearing thin through the computer screen.
MOONL16H7: You can’t just go in dry. Tease me à little.
User3560486: I’d rather have some kind of agreement in place before I share the details.
I roll my eyes at Cassian’s businesslike tone.
MOONL16H7: Boring.

User3560486: Precautions are necessary in my line of work.
MOONL16H7: Airplanes? Isn’t that what Blackwell does?
User3560486: You said you know him. I was under the impression that you’re smart enough to figure things out.
I roll my eyes again. First, he tells me I don’t even know the details of the job, now he wants something from me before he’ll even tell me what they are.
Typical mafia Alpha.
Whatever. I’m done with this.
MOONL16H7: Tell your boss my team takes jobs based on vibes, and I’m not feeling yours. You could offer 100 times my going rate and I still wouldn’t take the job…
MOONL16H7: …unless you call me Daddy, Alpha.
I picture what Cassian’s face must look like as he reads this. The pure outrage at the audacity of the person who’d dare to address him like this.
I start to laugh so hard tears stream from my eyes. It alerts Zina, who comes out of her room, looking alarmed.

I show her my screen, and then she starts to laugh. She laughs so hard she ends up on the floor, hugging her stomach.
“Holy shit, girl. I can’t believe you said that to him! Ugh, I wish I could see his face!”

I slam my laptop shut. Rage boils through me. My claws scratch the lid of the computer and screech against the metal top.
I slam my finger down on the intercom button. “Adam!” I snarl. “Find me another hacker. One good enough to take Moonlight
down!”
