Chapter 16
Originally, Vivian had been just an ordinary college student at a regular university. Knox, a heir to a business empire, was someone she could only see
on TV.
So when Knox actually appeared before her asking her to play a role, Vivian felt like she’d won the lottery, She agreed without hesitation.
Even though everyone warned her that Knox was just playing with her, that she’d end up heartbroken and destroyed. Vivian persisted–because she’d been in love with Knox for a very long time.
From the first moment she saw Knox on TV, Vivian had sworn she’d only marry him if she ever married anyone.
Everyone said Vivian was delusional, so when she finally got a chance to get close to Knox, she naturally seized it tightly.
Knox’s request was simple: pretend to be his mistress and show affection in front of Celia.
At first, Vivian obediently played her part. But as Knox treated her better and better, even showing her more love than he showed Celia, Vivian’s ambitions grew.
She no longer wanted to be a disposable kept woman–she wanted to be his wife, the Whitfield family matriarch!
Initially, Vivian only dared small schemes against Celia, or harmless pranks.
But when she saw Knox remained indifferent, her courage grew.
She began various plots against Celia, even attempting to kill Knox’s grandfather.
Actually, Vivian’s methods weren’t particularly sophisticated, but Knox trusted her completely every single time.
So Vivian never worried about being exposed, especially with the only witness–Grandpa–still in a vegetative state. Therefore, Vivian was completely unprepared for the day her deeds would be revealed.
Caught off guard, she couldn’t find excuses and could only deny everything.
She figured if she kept denying, Knox would eventually let it slide.
Unfortunately, Knox wasn’t stupid. Before, he’d ignored things because he wanted to see how far Celia would go for love.
So many of Vivian’s schemes went unaddressed as long as they didn’t seriously harm Celia.
He never imagined his negligence would embolden Vivian, and that during Celia’s period of numb despair, when she stopped defending herself, his anger had blinded him to investigating the truth.
But now he would never spare Vivian.
He stood up again, pronouncing her final fate like a god of death.
“Since you love framing others so much, you can spend your life in prison. I’ll make sure you’re well taken care of there.”
He emphasized the words “taken care of” with special menace.
Vivian’s face contorted with terror as her grip on his pants loosened helplessly.
As police sirens pierced the storm and officers flooded in, Vivian screamed and begged.
“No! Please, no! I only did this because I love you! Knox, you can’t do this to me!”
She stared at his silhouette against the light as he adjusted his cufflinks, suddenly remembering a night at a gala under similar crystal chandeliers.
He’d cupped her face and said, “Vivian, I’ll love you forever,” but now he told the police: “All the evidence is on that table.”
As cold handcuffs circled Vivian’s wrists, she finally gave up and whispered in defeat.

Chapter 16
“Knox, in all these months, did you never love me even a little?”
The officers dragged her backward, her heels scraping deep grooves in the carpet.
“Not even a little?”
The wind and rain carried her final words against the mansion’s sealed door. Knox never turned around.
