Evangelina’s POV
After updating the others on the new training I made my way to Warrick’s office. There is already a line of couples who have met their other half, their soulmate. On the outside I am happy, but on the inside I am torn.
I am happy for each of them, but it reminds me of Xavier. There isn’t a day that goes by that I miss him and think about what could have been had he not been killed. They also remind me that I have a second chance mate who does not want me. He purposely hurts me by sleeping with a chosen mate, but I cannot allow him to break the bond or I will die and it is too close to the war to do that. I need to save our people.
I get a pang of hurt in my chest as I grow closer to his door, when I reach for the door knob the door swings on its own, revealing Hadley and her never ending glare.
“He’s mine, b*tch.” She says slowly under her breath. Nobody but me could hear her and I grit my teeth in anger. I walk into the room and Warrick looks at me in concern.
“Is everything alright?” He asked me.
“Yes. Let’s just get this over with. There are a lot more people than I thought there would be.” I say as we turn the chairs around to face the couch, like we did with Sofia and Anthony. I let the comment from Hadley roll off of me along with the feelings from right before. I need to be happy for these people, and I am.
One couple after another enter and we do the same thing. Ask which pack they would like to transfer to and pull the paperwork, stab our finger for sign off and wait until the links form. After three hours and 37 couples
we are done.
I sit back in the chair calming my racing mind and rubbing my sore finger. I had 28 people join my pack today and we lost 9. The dissipating and implementing of that many pack links takes a toll on you. I open my eyes to a glass in front of my face.
“Here, you look tired.” Warrick says as he hands me a glass of.. Vodka. I take it and eye it warrily.
“I didn’t poison it.” He says and I take a sip. The alcohol lit my mouth on fire and there isn’t much taste to it.
“I lost 28 people today. 13 of which were some of my best warriors.” He states, while I don’t respond. The ache in my heart from my mates had been plaguing me more than it has in a long time. This was just a reminder that I don’t have long before I am gone.
“What’s the matter?” He asks and I open my eyes to see him looking at me in concern and I snap. “What’s the matter? Do you really have to ask me that?” I ask and his eyes widen in surprise.
“What did I do?” He asks in confusion, he really doesn’t know?? That irritates me even more.
“What did you do?? What didn’t you do? You sit there and couple after couple talk about how the Moon Goddess chooses each person for us. The other half to your soul and that they need to cherish it. What bullsh*t is that?” I snap and he reels back like I just slapped him.
“It’s not bullsh*t. She does choose our other half and we do need to cherish it.” He states like I am insulting him. If anything that makes matters worse.

aren’t you cherishing that? Huh?” I spit as I stand up. Veena’s hurt is propelling my words. She wants her mate more than me and I cannot stand to see her hurt.
“1. Well. I.” He stammers.
“You. Well. You. Save it. Nothing can save your as* on how you have treated me. You’re nothing but a hypocrite and it disgusts me.” I say as I grab my new pack members files and head towards the door.
“It’s different.” He says lowly and I scoff.
“Different?! No it’s not, that is just an excuse for you to feel okay with how you treat me.” I say and he jumps
- up.
“Why won’t you just give me your name so that I can reject you then? Huh? This is just as much your fault as it is mine!” He yells.
“You have NO clue what would happen if you reject me. I would gladly give you my name to be rid of this damn bond.” I say and his eyes darken.
“Then give me your damn name.” He growls and I shake my head.
“I can’t.” I say and he smirks.
“That’s what I thought.” He says and I struggle through the lump in my throat.
“Don’t mistake me not giving you my name for holding on to you. I want nothing to do with you and your hypocritical ways.” I say as I open the door and leave. I make my way quickly through the castle to the new wing. I am too focused on holding back tears to realize that somebody was right in front of me.
I run into a hard back and fall backwards spilling the files to the ground.
Arms catch me before I fall and a deep chuckle comes from the person who is holding me. I quickly scramble to my feet and rush to collect the papers.
“At least it isn’t my fault this time.” I hear and look up into the light orange eyes of Jaxon. He is helping me gather the papers but when we stand up and he hands them to me he holds my hand to keep me still.
“What is wrong?” He asks and I shake my head and force a smile.
“Nothing. I am just in a hurry and forgot to look where I was going. Sorry for running into you.” I say and he gives me a look that says he doesn’t believe me then turns and holds out his hand to indicate the way. I begin to walk past him and he begins walking in step with me, to my side.
“Warrick being an a*shole today?” He asks and I chuckle dryly.
“Isn’t he always?” I ask and he barks out a laugh.
“He hasn’t always been, but yes as of the last few years he has been worse.” He answers a nod my head. We make our way to my office with polite conversation. He even managed to help my mood a bit. As I put the files on my desk, I feel a pressure behind my eyes.
“Are you o..” I hear Jaxon ask before pain explodes in my mind and I am transferred into a current situation. This is how I know I need to go as soon as possible, the pain is horrible.
I see a woman with a child being beaten by a group of men.

and that abomination of a son is dead. You will both be burned alive for what you have done. A man says as he kicks the woman and begins to drag her by her hair.
I am pulled back from the vision, clinging to my head and sitting on a chair. I don’t know how I got there but Jaxon is looking at me warily.
“I need to go.” I say as I stand up and he stops me.
“You were on the verge of passing out, you need to rest.” He says and I push past him making him stumble. “I need to go.” I say as I rush out of the room to change my clothes. I mindlink Dalya to ensure that she has enough energy to travel and thank the goddess that she does.
