Matt stormed into the room, his face red with anger. He slammed the door so hard that the walls trembled. He was seething with fury. Cain had made a fool out of him, and the man’s words echoed in his mind.
“Court clown.”
“Weakling”
“A man who can’t fight for his pack.”
The sound of shattering glass echoed through the room as a goblet slammed into the wall. Matt stood in the middle of his chambers, breathing heavily, his fists clenched at
his sides.
How dare Cain! How dare he talk to him in that manner. Each insult replayed in his mind, fueling the fire of his rage. “Arghh..” he growled, grabbing hold of his desk–and threw it across the room in a fit of rage. Papers and maps flew across the floor as he overturned everything in his path.
Cain didn’t just belittle him; he made him feel totally insignificant, like he was worth nothing. Matt couldn’t bear it, his pride crushed under the weight of Cain’s words. It was like his father’s words all over again.

‘Can’t you be more like your brother?”
‘Why do you have to be such a coward?”
How dare Cain diminish him in such a manner? He had spent years clawing his way to power, working his way alongside Rowan until his death and even after death, he’d worked even harder. Building his influence and solidifying his position among the alphas. How dare Cain diminish it all in one second?

happened with Xander wasn’t just something that resonated with the region; granted, he had something to do with it. He might’ve fueled the rumors to be even more brutal but he did what had to be done to finally pin Cain to something, and yet, once again, he managed to slip right through his fingers.
Matt growled angrily once more, grabbing a flower vase and threw it across the wall, the glass shattering.
Just as the shards of glass scattered across the floor, a knock came at the door. It was hesitant whoever it was clearly scared of the anger within the room.
“What now?” Matt barked sharply.
The door creaked open, revealing one of his guards. The man kept his head low, clearly unwilling to meet Matt’s gaze.
“Alpha Matt,” the guard said cautiously. “I have news. Xander–he’s gone. Missing from the cabin.
Matt froze mid–step, his hand still poised in the air from his latest outburst. “What do you mean ‘Gone?” he said slowly, his tone dangerously low.
The guard swallowed hard, “Yes, Alpha. We checked the cabin this morning. He’s not there. No sign of him anywhere,” the guard explained hurriedly.
Matt’s lips curled into a snarl, his eyes narrowing dangerously. “You let him escape?” he hissed out angrily, storming towards the man, hands shot out, gripping the guard’s collar tightly.
“N–no alpha, there are five unconscious guards in the cabin..” the guard rushed out in panic.
Matt paused, his words ringing in his ears. He pushed the guard back, a disbelieving scoff escaping his lips. “You’re telling me, A man who hasn’t trained in weeks. A man with just one functioning hand managed to knock five of my warriors unconscious and escape?” Matt chuckled bitterly as he ran his hands through his hair. “This is ridiculous.” He muttered.
“To be fair, Alpha…He is Xander of Vehiron pack, Alpha. He’s the former head warrior. None of us stood a chance.” The guard blurted out.
Matt’s laughter cut off abruptly, his sharp glare snapping to the guard. “To be fair?” he

repeated, his voice cold and harsh. “Are you suggesting I should expect my warriors to fail? That I should be proud of their Incompetence because they lost to one man?”
The guard flinched, taking a step back. “No, Alpha, 1-1 only meant that-
“Shut. Up.” Matt snarled angrily. He turned away, his hand resting on his chin as he paced the room, his mind racing.
Xander’s escape wasn’t just an embarrassment. It was a catastrophe. He had planned to keep the former head warrior isolated long enough to manipulate him further, to use his anger as a weapon against Cain. Now that Xander was free, there was no telling what he would do.
Matt growled under his breath, “How long was his escape?”
“Twenty minutes ago.”
Twenty minutes was a long time but still not long enough. Xander couldn’t be out of the pack border yet. He shot the guard a sharp look. “Double the patrols. Every exit from is to be sealed, and I want trackers on him now. If he so much as breathes outside the border, I want to know about it.”
“Yes, Alpha!” The guard saluted quickly, bowing his head before turning to leave.
As the door closed, Matt’s expression darkened further. He slammed his hand against the edge of the overturned desk, the pain grounding him for a moment.
Xander’s escape wasn’t just an inconvenience. It was a threat. Matt needed control; he couldn’t afford for things to spiral out of his hands now.
He reached for his phone and dialed Martha, the line connecting after a few rings. “Alpha Matt” Martha’s quiet voice came over the phone.
Matt dragged his hand over his face, “You told me you’d keep me informed about everything in Vehiron. If you’ve been slacking, I swear you’ll regret it.”
“O–of course not, Alpha. Martha rushed out albeit hesitantly. “I’ve been watching closely. Alpha Cain and Avery… they’ve been spending time together. I saw them in his

woman!” He growled.
“I–I don’t know what you want to hear, Alpha.” Came Martha’s reply.
Matt’s grip tightened around the phone, his patience wearing thin. “I want to hear about Xander,” he snarled. “Has there been any findings on him? What lead does Cain have? Don’t waste my time with Cain and that servant–I need actionable information.” He gritted out.
There was a momentary pause on the line before Martha replied carefully, “I don’t think there’s been any new development. Alpha Cain still has the warriors out searching for Sir Xander. I don’t think they’ve had any luck so far.”
Matt paced back and forth, gripping the phone tighter. If Xander left the cabin here, he had to have a plan. Which is it? One, he would try to find the one who sells the poison and two, he would try to get in touch with his sister. Matt paused in his steps; he finally knew what he had to do. “Listen to me carefully, Martha,” he began. “Keep a close eye on Lydia. If she so much as breathes in a way that suggests she might know where he is, has gotten in contact with him or even be working with him. I want to know. Understand?”
