Chapter 59
Aurora wasn’t sure how to respond to Lucas‘ concern, so she turned away slightly. “This whole thing blew up so much. That person probably wouldn’t dare show up again.”
But what if they did?
Lucas sighed inwardly but didn’t press the issue. “Alright. Let’s go home.”
He had already instructed people to investigate the stalker. Until they had answers, he wasn’t comfortable leaving Aurora alone.
She nodded quietly and followed him to the car.
Lucas frowned slightly.
Something was off with her.
Ever since last night, she had been distant–subtle, but noticeable.
She was avoiding him.
Testing the waters, he reached out, intending to hold her hand, only to grasp nothing.
Aurora had just slipped her hands into her coat pockets.
Was it coincidence?
Or was she deliberately keeping her distance?
She acted like she didn’t notice anything, glancing toward the parked cars. “Where did you leave your car?”
“Right here.”
Lucas, masking his unease, walked ahead and very politely opened the passenger door for her.
Aurora hesitated for half a second before getting in.
Once she was settled, Lucas closed the door and walked around to the driver’s side.
As he started the engine, he asked casually, “The fridge at home is nearly empty. Want to stop by the grocery store?”
Aurora instinctively wanted to refuse―her head was starting to ache, and all she really wanted was to go home and rest.
But she hesitated.
If she said no again, Lucas would definitely start overanalyzing things.
So, after a pause, she agreed.
At the supermarket, Lucas smoothly grabbed a shopping cart and gestured for her to follow.
“We’re not in a rush. Might as well look around for other things, too.”
Aurora shook her head.
She was already pushing herself just to be here.
Every breath made her throat itch.
Her head felt heavy, her legs light.
Maybe she had caught a small cold. She had worked up a sweat earlier, then immediately stepped outside into the cold air.
Suppressing a cough, she cleared her throat. “Fish. I feel like having steamed fish.”

“I’ll go pick it out,” Lucas said, handing the shopping cart to Aurora Walton before heading toward the fresh seafood section.
He selected a lively, thrashing fish and had the store staff clean and prepare it.
When he turned back, he noticed that Aurora hadn’t moved from where he left her.
She was standing still, facing away from him.
Following her gaze, he saw what had caught her attention–the dessert aisle, specifically the shelves lined with various chocolates.
So, she wants chocolate?
“Sir, your fish is ready.”
Lucas turned back for a moment to collect it.
When he looked again, Aurora’s body wavered.
She stumbled slightly, nearly collapsing.
Fortunately, she caught herself against the railing.
Her hand lifted to her forehead, checking for warmth.
She didn’t feel feverish.
Probably just something minor. I’ll be fine after a nap.
“Fish is ready,” Lucas’s voice called out again.
Aurora quickly straightened, trying to compose herself. “Alright. You can pick up anything else you need—it’s your kitchen, so you decide.”
Lucas could tell she was eager to get home, so he made quick work of selecting ingredients.
On a whim, he also grabbed a few boxes of chocolate before heading to the self–checkout.
Handing her the car keys, he said, “Go ahead to the car. I’ll be right behind you.”
“Got it.”
Aurora took the keys and left.
She didn’t even remember how she made it home.
By the time she opened her eyes again, she was already lying in bed.
A dim, warm light from the bedside lamp filled the room.
The door was left open, allowing the soft glow from the chandelier in the living room to mix with the warmth of the bedside light.
From the kitchen, the distant sounds of clinking dishes and simmering pots filled the air, blending with the delicious scent of food.
Aurora swallowed involuntarily.
She was starving
“Awake?”
Lucas had checked on her four times already.

The moment he saw her stirring, he walked in briskly and helped her sit up.
Then, he handed her a glass of warm water. “Drink this first. I’ll get you some oatmeal.”
“And after that–medicine. Because you’re sick.”
