Chapter 59 Can’t Hold Back Anymore
“Nothing too special about it,” Zane replied coolly, his tone indifferent.
Rachel laughed, half amused and half exasperated. But she didn’t bother to argue with him. After all, she hadn’t cooked for Zane’s sake. She wouldn’t have let him have even a single sip if it weren’t for Kent.
She stood up and began packing for Kent. Zane watched her, noting the hint of annoyance on her face, and smirked ever so slightly, though only for a fleeting moment.
Back at the hospital, Janice’s voice rang out before they even stepped into the elevator. “Zane?”
At that moment, Rachel stood beside Zane, holding a lunchbox. The two of them looked every bit like a married couple visiting the hospital together.
Janice felt a sharp pang at the sight.
Her eyes reddened as she walked up to Zane. “Zane, didn’t you say you were handling some business? Why are you here with Rachel?”
Seeing her so upset, Rachel kindly raised the lunchbox and explained, “Ms. Bailey, please don’t get
it wrong. Mr. Jenkins Senior suddenly wanted to eat something I made, so Mr. Jenkins found me a place to cook, that’s all. Don’t worry, nothing is going on between us.”
What she said wasn’t wrong, but it took everything in Janice not to lash out at her right then and there.
Zane said softly, a hint of warmth in his voice, “Grandpa was really craving her cooking.”
“There are amazing chefs at home. Why does it have to be her? You’re divorced, and yet you keep showing up together like you’re still a couple. Of course, people are going to talk.”
Janice couldn’t hold it in any longer.
Rachel had been wondering how long Janice could keep her composure.
But apparently, she couldn’t keep it even for a while.
She nodded, agreeing, “You have a point, Ms. Bailey. It does look suspicious. I’ll go up by myself, then. Mr. Jenkins, you should stay with your girlfriend.”
With that, she turned and walked into the elevator, completely unbothered.

Oddly enough, Zane was in a foul mood because of Selena’s unexpected words.
Seeing Rachel walk off so confidently to go see Kent, Janice grew even more anxious. She grabbed Zane’s arm and said, “Zane, I’m your girlfriend. What will people think of me if she keeps getting close to Mr. Jenkins Senior like this? Have you ever thought about that?”
Zane replied patiently, “Grandpa hasn’t eaten properly in days. He was craving Rachel’s cooking. Would you rather see him starve?”
Janice felt a pang in her chest. “But she’s Rachel.”
“We’re already divorced.”
“But people remember you two were once married!” Janice pressed on, refusing to let it go.
Zane frowned slightly. “Janice, have you forgotten that she and I are still working together?”
If anything, that just made it worse. The fact that they still had a reason to see each other for work was what haunted Janice the most.
But sensing Zane’s growing impatience, she forced herself to soften. “I’m sorry, Zane. I’m just afraid of losing you.”
“That won’t happen,” Zane assured her.
When Rachel returned to Kent’s ward, to found that he had been waiting eagerly. When he caught the scent of her cooking, he couldn’t stop praising her.
Just as they were about to eat, he noticed someone was missing. “Rachel, where’s Zane?”
Rachel replied, “He ran into Ms. Bailey downstairs, so I came up alone.”
Kent’s face fell immediately. What a coincidence.
He said, “Rachel, when I’m discharged, I want to see you alone. There’s something I’d like to discuss with you in private.”
Hearing how serious he sounded, Rachel agreed without hesitation.

Just then, Janice entered the room, with looped around Zane’s
