Chapter 57 Cheering Up Kent
Chapter 57 Cheering Up Kent
Rachel was suddenly reminded of her promise to visit Kent.
She hadn’t expected Zane to remind her in person, though his words were more of a roundabout scolding. “What? Are you here to lecture me about meeting different men? And how do you even know I’ve been seeing other men?”
Zane’s expression shifted, his gaze turning cold.
He replied coldly, “I’m not interested in your affairs. Just get in the car.”
Rachel watched his back, a knot of unease tightening in her chest. Chris had gotten into the SUV earlier–had Zane seen him?
On the way to the hospital, Rachel unexpectedly spotted an old, well–known pastry shop. “Mr. Scott, could you please pull over for a moment?” she asked politely.
Zane’s brows furrowed. “What are you trying to pull?”
Rachel stepped out and said, “We’re visiting an elder. You know the drill–we can’t show up with nothing. This is his favorite pastry place.”
She was already out of the car. Zane glanced at the shop, his eyes deep and thoughtful. “Does Grandpa like this place?”
Colin shook his head–he had no idea.
Once Rachel had picked up the pastries, they continued on to the private hospital.
Kent needed to be hospitalized for observation, but he refused, causing days of trouble for his caretakers. Zane had no choice but to talk to him personally.
No one expected it–Kent only wanted to see Rachel. And once he did, he finally agreed to the treatment. Which meant Zane had no option but to bring her in.
When Zane saw Rachel carrying the gift box, he still looked a bit skeptical.
But the moment they stepped into Kent’s hospital room and he saw Rachel, the gloom that had hung over him for days seemed to vanish. A rare smile broke across his face.
“Rachel, you came to see me! And you even brought my favorite pastries! After all this time you still remember what I like.”
Hearing this, Zane was a little surprised.

Janice had made plenty of pastries before, but none ever suited Kent’s taste he wouldn’t even take a bite. Who would’ve thought he liked this specific shop?
Did Rachel really know Kent that well?
She took a seat by the bed, unwrapped the box, and laid the pastries out neatly. “I checked with your doctor–you’re not supposed to have too much sugar. Just a little bite of each.
“You always know me best. No one else understands how I feel,” Kent said with a sigh.
“Well, that’s why I’m here, right?” Rachel coaxed, trying to cheer him up. “Mr. Jenkins Senior Zane told me you haven’t been eating well these past few days. I bet it’s all the medicine upsetting your stomach.
“I remember you used to love mushroom soup. How about I ask the chef at home to make you some?”
Hearing Rachel call him that stirred something in Zane, pulling his thoughts back to seven years ago. He kept his expression unreadable as he sat silently on the couch in the back.
Meanwhile, Rachel’s suggestion had clearly whetted Kent’s appetite.
Brook Zoch, the butler, chimed in with a smile. “Mrs. Jenkins, no one makes it quite like you. Even the chef can’t match your version. If you’re willing, I think Mr. Jenkins Senior would be thrilled to have a bowl made by you.”
“But if I make it now, it’ll be cold by the time it gets here. It won’t ta

the same.
She was so busy trying to think of a solution that she didn’t even notice how Brook had addressed her.
Kent rubbed his stomach as he said, “Rachel, I really miss the mushroom soup you make.”
Just then, Zane spoke up. “I have an apartment nearby.”
