Marcus‘ voice was unusually serious, a rare
note of certainty in his tone.
Abigail blinked in surprise. “Huh? What if
we don’t get along?”
“That won’t happen. I won’t hurt you the
way your friend fears. In this marriage, you’ll have the freedom to do whatever you want.
I won’t stop you from chasing your dreams.”
Abigail paused, then nodded slowly. “Okay, I get it.”
But it was clear she didn’t fully believe him.

After all, he was saying that now because
he hadn’t met someone he truly loved.
Once he did, just like Felix, he’d probably
get bored and want a divorce.
Abigail followed him to his place in Claudia,
her thoughts a bit tangled.

It wasn’t a luxury villa in the heart of the city, but it was in one of the city’s newly developed neighborhoods.
The apartment was on the eighth floor, one unit per floor, with 1,615 square feet of space. It was decorated in a minimalist style, and the large floor–to–ceiling windows offered a breathtaking view of the city.

The place was peaceful and the location was convenient, definitely better than she had imagined.
Marcus wasn’t as poor as she had thought.
He placed the key on the entryway shoe rack and glanced at her. “Come over and register your fingerprint.”
Abigail walked over and placed her finger on the smart lock.
After the fingerprint was successfully recorded, Marcus added, “The place might be a little small for now, but we can manage. I’ll get you something bigger later.”
“This is perfect. I really like it!” Abigail said,

She wasn’t just being polite. Though it
wasn’t as grand as the Winchester Villa, it
felt much more like a real home.
Marcus watched her with a slight smile, surprised at how easily she was satisfied. “It’s still a bit empty here since no one’s lived in it yet. If you want to add anything, feel free. I want you to feel at home.”
Abigail suddenly remembered something. “What about your son?”
She was curious about his age and what he was like to get along with.
Marcus explained, “He’s not feeling well at

the moment, so he’s staying with my family
in Veridon.”
Abigail visibly relaxed.
It was a relief to know she wouldn’t have to deal with a child right away. She’d been worried about not getting along with him.
Marcus noticed the change in her expression and smiled inwardly.
She was easier to read than he thought. Her emotions were all there on her face.
He didn’t comment on it, though. Instead, he said, “You’ve had a long day. You must be exhausted. Go take a shower and get
some rest.”

Abigail, thinking he was hinting at something else, grew flustered.

She walked awkwardly to the couch, sitting
down with a nervous laugh. “I’m not tired yet. I’ll just sit here for a bit.”
“Okay,” Marcus replied with a half–smile.
He paused before continuing, “I have some things to take care of, so I might not be back
tonight.”
Hearing this, Abigail felt a weight lift off her
chest.
Once he left, she collapsed onto the couch, letting the tension of the day fade away for

a moment. After a little while, she got up to unpack her luggage.
Standing at the door of the bedroom with her suitcase in hand, she hesitated whether she should sleep in the same room with
Marcus.
