At Harry and Sarah’s strong urging, Rachel finally agreed to let them check in on Nick and Alyssa.
Figuring it was around breakfast time and still a bit early for school, she decided to try a video call. But after several attempts, there was no answer on the other end.
Harry suggested, “Maybe they left their phone in the room and didn’t notice?”
Still, Rachel had never gone this long without hearing from them. Uneasy, she decided to call Grace Vena instead.
Thankfully, Grace White picked up right away, her voice sharp and fluent in Calrian. “Ms. Freeman, are you serious right now? Didn’t you ask Mr. Anderson to take the kids out to meet you?”
Rachel froze. “What?” Her voice dropped, face draining of color. “Are you sure?”

Grace was startled by her reaction and suddenly realized something was wrong. goodness, Ms. Freeman, you didn’t know? Hasn’t Mr. Anderson met up with you?”
Rachel’s mind went blank. “When did they leave?”
“The day after you went abroad for your business trip, they were picked up.”
Rachel frowned, clearly shocked. They left that early? Then why did the backgrounds in the recent video calls still look like they were at home?
“Ms. Freeman?”
“It’s fine, I’ll handle it.” Rachel quickly hung up and called Chris, but no one answered.
Harry and Sarah exchanged worried glances, sensing something was wrong.
Sarah then asked, “Rachel, what happened?”
Rachel explained, “Alyssa and Nick were picked up the day after I arrived in Guardia.”
No one had any appetite left. The three of them left the restaurant in a hurry, tension th in the air. Since Rachel still couldn’t reach Chris, she tried calling James instead.
After she quickly explained the situation, James responded, “I had no idea any of this was happening. I’ve just been checking in on their homework for the past few days. As for Chris,

if the kids are with him, they should be okay. I’ll reach out to him now.
“Alright”
“Rachel, look at the trending news.” Sarah handed her the phone. “Chris? Illegitimate child?
Rachel saw Chris trending in the news, with a photo of him holding a child in each hand. Even though it was just their backs, she instantly recognized Alyssa and Nick from their height and clothes.
“Where is this?”
“This is the Josona Floria Market. It’s not far from here; we can still make it if we hurry,” Harry explained.
Rachel didn’t hesitate–she set out immediately to find them.
If those two kids were exposed because of Chris, Zane would catch on in no time. And if that happened, everything would fall apart.
She couldn’t let that happen. She couldn’t risk Zane finding out about the children–not when she couldn’t be sure he wouldn’t try to take them from her.
Nick and Alyssa were definitely in need of a serious lesson.
