Chapter 49 The Usual Place
Sarah had reserved a private room at the restaurant they used to frequent during their university days.
As soon as Rachel got out of the car, memories from college flooded back. She asked curiously, “This place is still open?”
Harry raised his eyebrows confidently. “It was about to close down, but Sarah and I invested to keep it running–and we included you as a shareholder too.”
Rachel was instantly touched by this.
Harry patted her on the shoulder. “Save the sentiment for later. Let’s head inside first.”
The dishes had already been served in the private room, waiting for their arrival.
Once they were seated and the door was locked, Harry slid a USB drive across the table toward Rachel. “Here’s what you asked for,” he said. “I even threw in a little bonus.”
Rachel hadn’t expected Harry to be so efficient.
“What kind of bonus?”
“Some juicy gossip about Yale,” Harry replied.
Sarah let out a dramatic gasp. “Harry, maybe you should quit being a traffic officer and become a private investigator instead.”
“Cut it out. I love my job,” Rachel shot back.
Sarah retorted, “Sure, sure. That’s why you’re still single.”
Harry felt the sting. “Sarah, you’re not exactly doing any better!”
Sarah shrugged. “At least I’ve got money.”
Harry couldn’t argue–when it came to money, Sarah definitely had the upper hand. Truth be told, he occasionally had to rely on her generosity.
As Rachel watched the two of them bicker, a wave of nostalgia washed over her. Without thinking, she blurted out, “So, when are you two finally going to settle down? Or if all else fails, why not just end up together? Keep it in the family.”
They both looked up at her at the same time and said, dead serious, “Absolutely not.”

Rachel laughed. After all these years, some things really didn’t change.
Shifting back to business over dinner, the conversation turned serious. Harry asked, “So Rachel now that you’ve got the evidence, when do you plan to settle the score with the Freeman family?”
“No rush,” Rachel said calmly.
She truly wasn’t in a hurry. The longer she waited, the more it would eat away at them. She didn’t need confirmation–she already knew Zane was the one who had taken her away back then. Ever since that day, the Freeman family had to be living on edge.
She intended to make her move only once–and make it count. Whether it was the house or the shares, she needed to take back at least one before anything else.
Chris had finally carved out some time to check in on the two little ones at Wanda City. After all, if anything happened to them, it wouldn’t just be Selena who lost it–his brother might actually break his legs.
But to his surprise, the moment he walked through the door, the kids started begging to go
out.
Chris stood there, completely at a loss.
For once, Nick was sitting obediently on the couch–but that didn’t stop him from backing up Alyssa’s pleas. He spoke with calm, almost lawyer–like logic. “Even though we promised not to go out, Uncle Chris, we’re six years old. Being cooped up all the time isn’t good for us.”
“I don’t mind, but Allie does. If you really can’t let us out, at least take us to the pet market. Buy her some little animals to keep her entertained.”
Little animals?
Chris couldn’t help but remember the strange pets Alyssa kept back when they were abroad -the memory still gave him the creeps. How could such a tiny little girl be so obsessed with cold–blooded creatures?
Still, he had to admit–Rachel’s kids were both incredibly gifted, each in their own way.
“Uncle Chris, please take us out! Please, Uncle Chris.”
In the end, Chris caved. “Alright. Let me change, and I’ll take you out.”
The siblings exchanged a triumphant glance–their plan had worked.

He couldn’t be blamed for being cautious–the kids were just too striking. If he wasn’t careful, they’d draw all kinds of attention. And if his identity got exposed, he’d be making headlines for days.
What he didn’t know was that the second he left the building with the kids, the paparazzi, hiding in the shadows, had already locked onto them.
