Chapter 41 Dr Naver, The Love Guru
Half an hour later, Zane emerged, freshly showered and dressed from the bathroom.
Wearing a grim expression, Zane stepped into the guest bedroom just as Shawn was finishing up. The moment he saw him, Shawn snapped, “The Freeman family is downright cruel. Whatever they gave Rachel–it was brutal. If the dose had been even slightly higher, it could’ve killed her.”
He shook his head, frustration in his voice. “Rachel’s the toughest woman I’ve ever met. Even in that state, she had the clarity to hurt herself on purpose–just to use the pain to stay awake -and then threw herself out a window to get away.”
Zane’s face turned to stone,
“Is the drug out of her system?” he asked.
Shawn shook his head. “It’s going to take a while. I only gave her a sedative to put her to sleep for now, so I could treat her injuries. Lucky enough, no broken bones. It was just a cut on her arm and several scrapes. But she’ll still feel awful when she wakes up.”
“How do we handle it?”
“Medication isn’t an option, so we’ll have to rely on physical methods,” Shawn replied, pushing up his glasses. “Put her in the bathtub and use ice to soothe her discomfort. She just needs to get through a few hours.”
Zane frowned.
Shawn went on, “Zane, like it or not, Rachel was your wife for two years. And during that time, she never did anything to hurt you. After the divorce, she went through hell–and it took her seven years overseas to build the life she has now
“So maybe she wasn’t all smiles when she came back, but can you really blame her? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not taking sides. I’m just looking at it objectively. For the sake of those two years, you owe her at least this much–help her through this.
“Honestly, if you step up now, maybe she won’t hold so much against you. And who knows- she might even remember this down the line and not make trouble for your business.”
Zane didn’t say a word.
Out of the corner of his eye, Zane glanced at Rachel lying motionless on the bed. His brow tightened, and a rare trace of distress crossed his face.
“I’ll go have someone bring up some ice,” he muttered before turning and walking out.

Shawn seized the moment to follow him downstairs, with Colin silently trailing after.
Once they were out of earshot, Colin asked Shawn quietly, “Dr. Naver… are we really doing the right thing?”
Shawn clicked his tongue. “Colin, you’re always by Zane’s side. Can’t you see what he’s really thinking?”
Colin stunned.
Shawn came to a stop and turned slightly toward Colin. “Zane does whatever Janice asks- keeps her close, never questions her. But you need to understand, he’s only doing it because she once saved his life.”
He paused for a beat, then added, “But think about it. Have you ever seen Janice set foot on Myra Heights? Not even once.
“This place is basically the marital home of Zane and Rachel. And now, when Rachel’s in trouble, this was the first place that came up in his mind.”
Suddenly, it all made sense to Colin. After a long pause, he let out a sigh. “Dr. Naver, ever think about opening a relationship counseling clinic?”
Shawn let out a short laugh. “Get out of here.”
Back upstairs in the guest bedroom, Zane stood silently beside the bed, his gaze fixed on Rachel. His expression was unreadable–layered with more than just concern, as if weighed down by something he wasn’t ready to name.
She was still wearing the same clothes, the fabric stained with dried blood. Her left arm was wrapped in a bandage, but fresh blood had already begun to seep through.
Shawn’s words echoed in Zane’s mind. He stood there in silence, his brow furrowed, his expression dark as he sank deeper into thought.
Suddenly, Rachel began to stir uncomfortably, curling up in pain. Seeing her pressing on her injured arm, Zane immediately tried to turn her over. But unexpectedly, she clung to his arm, murmuring, “It hurts so much.”
