Chapter 18

Evangelina’s POV

A month later, the girls and Henry improved exponentially. It has been slightly uneventful,

quiet month for the most part. I have had a few requests of help, but nothing major. Mostly for

the use of contractors, accounting services and deals for trade. Right now, it is about 10:00 at

night and I am working on sending a group of warriors to help train the Night Sky pack

The girls are currently with my top vision warrior, well really to only one since seer’s are few

and far between, training in combat. The first month was mental, working with them to read

people without touching them or looking into their eyes. They had the potential and

willingness to learn which helped greatly

They can now read people without looking into their eyes. Granted Nali still needs to work on

her range and Tali needs to work on the length of time she can read a person’s future. She is

up to 1 minute, but has the power to reach 10, I just know it. They are very powerful, being princesses. Speaking of which, if anybody has made the connection they haven’t confronted it

yet. So that’s good

The girls have also made friends. They hang out with a group in the game room every night

they really have prospered here. Tali being the one growing most. She seems to have overcome her muteness and is comfortable enough here to be herself and enjoy life

There is a knock on my office door and Henry walks in

He has grown too. His control is one of the things that he mastered most before coming here. He learned new ways to use his power and has gained new combat skills while here. Now he

is like a normal pack member, joining patrols outside and inside the veil. He has meshed very

well with our head warriors, Linc and Marie. Marie has overcome her hostility over them being

from the royal pack once she realized they weren’t entitled pricks like most from the royal

pack

Hey.Henry says when he walks in

Hey. What’s up?I ask as he sits on one of the chairs facing my desk

I overheard a group of warriors saying that some of them might be chosen to help train

another pack.He says studying me

Is there supposed to be a question in that statement that I am to answer?I ask pointedly

Henry and I have grown close in joking around and trust, but we have evaded my pack

business as well as that of the royal pack

I.. I know that we don’t talk about pack business but I am confused. He says

If you have a question, spit it out Henry.I say a little impatiently and he winces

Why is a pack requesting help from a rogue pack and not the royal pack?He asks and I sigh

I had a feeling we wouldn’t be able to ignore this topic while you were here.I say and he stares at me, patiently waiting for me to speak

Do you remember the morning that you and the girls arrived and what I said about not telling

people you were from the royal pack?I ask and he nods his head with a furrowed brow

Well, one of the reasons that many members don’t like the royal pack is because it is

extremely hard to receive assistance from them. It takes months, if not years to get a response, and most times it is a rejection.I say and he looks confused and surprised

What do you mean? We help as much as we can and assist in all areas efficiently. He says

defensively

Within what we call, the 100 mile radius, yes.I say, using air quotes when saying the radius

What is that supposed to mean?He asks angrily

Look, Henry, the royal pack does help certain packs. Most of which being the closest to them

There are a lot of packs that don’t receive help and if they do then the help is almost too late.”

I answer

I don’t understand. Warrick always has a stack of requests to go through on his desk and he is very generous in helping packs. He answers

Do you know where most of the requests are from?I ask and he takes a second to think

I guess from packs within 6 hours of the royal pack.He answered. But there are never any

requests from anything farther. He quickly adds

That is because these packs have all but stopped requesting help. Some still do because

they refuse to deal with us rogues, or have hope, but I have a total of 20 packs that come to

me with requests. This doesn’t include other species that I deal with.I inform him and his

brows raise

I just.. Something doesn’t add up. We don’t pick through packs based on favoritism. That is

not the reason we have a King.” He says

Henry, I am not sure what is going on. All I can say is that ever since Warrick took the throne

over a decade ago, only certain packs receive help in any aspect.I say and he grows angry

Warrick is NOT neglecting his duty as King.He all but yells

I am not saying that.I say while pointing to a stack of papers on my desk that is over 6 inches tall. This is my stack of requests from packs for help. Is his request stack larger?

ask and he shakes his head

No, the tallest i’ve ever seen is 2 inches. They get filtered through the royal request branch and passed to Warrick based on importance and how reasonable the request is.He answers and I stay quiet while he stares at my stack and the pieces of the puzzle start to connect

Are you saying that the branch in charge of the requests is purposefully not giving requests

to the king?He asks in shock

I have no business with the royal pack and any of their dealings, so I cannot say anything in that regard. If you have made that connection then that is all you.I answer and he is quiet

while processing the information

So you help the packs that are deemed less important by the branch? He asks and I nod my

head

We have come to find that packs who have more that 500 members or have a lot of gifted members get their request accepted. I help packs that need help. All of this stack will receive help in any way I can. I also help in some unconventional ways.” I say

Like?He asks

For example, if the request is for money, I don’t just give them money. I send an accountant to their pack or coven and they help find profitability in dealings with other packs or covens. It

helps them gain more in the long run.I say

So people don’t like the royal pack because they have been jested by them.He states and

nod my head

That among other things.I say and he sighs

What other things?He asks

Most of the royal pack members seem to think that they are better and stronger than other wolves. Don’t get me wrong, yes anybody in the pack has lycan strength, but that doesn’t mean sh*t when you don’t know how to properly use it. There is also, a prejudice when it comes to other species and hybrids. Most look at them like they are an abomination. A lot of hybrids come here because they will eventually be killed by the species they live with.I say

That isn’t how it is supposed to be.He states

agree

that is why I help people who need it.I say

+ Bonus

So you pick up the misgivings of the royal pack. That is not right. And neither is the prejudice of other species. Everybody always thinks that rogues are bad, especially after Natalie. He says, shaking his head. All rogues henceforth will be put down in any way possible. They are all a disgrace to the werewolf species. A wolf without a pack is ruthless and has no emotion. They are feral beings who will be given mercy with death. He says in a mocking deep voice and I look at him questioningly

That was a part of Warrick’s first speech as king. At the time I agreed with it, because my

brother was killed in the rogue attack, but I also knew that it wasn’t right. It isn’t just the view

on rogues either, there is no dealing with other species because wolves are superior. Which

we are not. We are all equal in one way or another. We were all created to balance each other

out.” He rants and I nod my head letting him vent his frustration

I wish more packs were more like yours. It is completely different here.He says

There are more packs than you think that are like mine.I say

But not enough.He says

I agree. Maybe when you go back home you can help in changing the people’s perspective.

say and he sighs

I doubt that. But I sure as hell am going to try.He says
