Chapter 8
Warrick’s POV
About 3 hours later I get a mindlink from the doctor.
“She is fit to leave, your highness.” Doctor Hererra says.
“Okay. I will have Henry pick her up.” I say and shut the mindlink off, then reach for Henry’s
mindlink tether.
“She is ready to leave. I need you to pick her up and make sure you bring the descent–ilizer.
Nobody can smell that she is a rogue.” I inform Henry and wait for a reply.
“I just got the spray from the apothecary. I will head there now.” He responds. Now I just need to wait for her to shower, change, and eat. Wiping my sweaty palms on my pants for the tenth
time already. I hear a knock at my door and look up to see my mother walk in.
“How is it going honey?” She asks, coming to sit across from my desk on one of the chairs.
“It’s fine mom.” I say and she nods looking at me skeptically.
“I know there is something else going on other than the rogue saving the girls. Whether she
saved the girls or not, you wouldn’t have taken her to the hospital to get help. You would have
put her out of her misery and killed her.” She voices and I cringe a little.
“Am I really that ruthless mother?” I ask.
“There was a time you were not.” She starts and pauses, looking at me with sorrow. “After Natalie’s betrayal and your father’s death you became that ruthless. Any rogue you scent would be killed, whether they did anything or not.” She answers and I know that she is right. I turn in my chair to look out of my office window, staring at the forest and ocean just past it. I hear my mother get up out of the chair and walk toward me. She places a hand on my
shoulder and asks me again.
“What is different about this rogue?” She asks. I sigh knowing that I can’t lie to her, even if I tried she would call bull, and keep asking until she got the truth.
“She is my second chance mate.” I say, then look up into her blue eyes. Her eyes widen and she looks at me.
“What are you going to do?” She tries to ask softly, but I can hear the tightness in her voice.
“I am going to reject her and let her leave peacefully. I will not risk having the past repeat

itself.” I say and I see my mother take a small breath of what seems like relief.

“I am sorry that you have to do this sweetheart, but I do think you are making the right
decision. I will be here for you when you are done and I will help you with whatever you need.”
She says and I didn’t realize till that moment how much I needed somebody to agree with my
decision.
I know that I am ruining the mate bond and going against the goddess, but I can’t do this
again. My eyes start to water and I nod my head. She bends down and pulls me against her
chest to comfort me. After a few seconds she kisses the top of my head and pulls away,
nodding to me before she takes her leave.
I don’t know how long I was sitting there when I was interrupted by a mindlink.
“We have a slight problem.” Henry’s voice comes through.
“What is it?” I ask, fully prepared to hear that my mate was being a true rogue and terrorizing
people.
“The girls found her in the dining room while she was eating and now won’t leave her side.”
Henry answers and I sigh.
“I’ll be right down.” I say and look at the clock. She has been here for a few hours and hasn’t caused any problems, but that doesn’t mean anything. I just need to get this over with.
I make my way to the dining room when I hear the girls giggling. I stop just shy of the door and
tune into the conversation.
“Thank you for saving us.” Nalissa says.
“We made you a flower crown.” Talissa says.
“Thank you girls. This is the most beautiful gift I have received in a very long time. Thank you.” I hear an angelic voice say.
I swear this woman would cause me to stop breathing, everything about her seems perfect. And I hate myself for what I am going to do to her, but it is for the best.
“Do you have to go home?” Talissa asks and before the woman could respond I walk in and the girls grow quiet. I look to see them wearing flower crowns and see my mate holding an identical one.
She looks up at me and smiles, sadly. Does she know what is going to happen?
I see Henry in the corner watching the interaction.

“Girls, you shouldn’t be bugging her while she is eating.” I say and they look down.
“We just wanted to say goodbye before she left.” Nalissa says.

“And give her our present.” Talissa says. She turns to smile at the woman. The woman smiles down to the girls and reaches out for them. I let out a small growl when the girls ran into her arms for a hug. My mate gives me a stern look before letting go of the girls and standing up.
She stands there staring at me expectantly and I clear my throat.
“If you could follow me.” I say and turn around walking towards my office. I hear her footsteps.
following me so I proceed.
Once we reach my office, I shut the door and turn back around to see her standing in the middle of the room taking in her surroundings. I walk in front of her and take a deep breath.
“What is your name?” I ask her and she stares at me. She doesn’t say anything, just stares at
- me.
This is already hard for me, why does she have to make this harder?
“What is your name?” I ask again and I see her eyes start to shine, she is going to start crying
and I can’t handle tears.
Instead of crying, she pulls her shoulders back and turns away from me, walking towards the
window.
“I need to know your name.” I say, getting impatient now. I start to walk towards her when the door bursts open and I see Henry ushering the girls in.
“Henry, I am busy.” I snap, but then stop to take in his state.
“I realize that, but we need to go to the east border, there are witches there causing a lot of
trouble. A few of our warriors are injured.” He rushes out.
My heart begins to pound. We haven’t caused any problems with covens. We stay out of their way and they stay out of ours. It is in the agreement. I look at the girls then to my mate. They all have wide eyes and are staring at me.
“Stay here and don’t leave until I come back.” I order and run out of the door, locking it on my
way out. My office is one of the safe rooms we have. Even though there is a window, it is impossible to break and can’t be opened. I shift as soon as we reach outside and make my
way to the east border.
