Chapter 62
Both men race up the initial ramp and over the spinning pads. Ezra wobbles a moment, but he makes it. I step back just far enough to see him leap for the bar ladder. He and Alpha Daniel keep pace as they pull themselves up with their arms, then lock the bar into the next rung of the ladder. They’re almost neck and neck as they get to the top. Once they slide onto the stand, we can no longer see them.
I tilt my head, listening as they move into the next challenge.
“Fuck!” I hear from Alpha Daniel. Sebastian is standing beside me and his nose goes up in the air.
“He got nicked,” he says softly to me.

It’s only a couple of moments later when I hear the whizzing of an arrow and then the softer sound of the arrow sink- ing into flesh instead of the target.
I hear Ezra cry out and I’m running before I hear his body hit the ground.

“Oh, that fucking hurts!” Ezra growls as Sebastian and I rush up to him. He’s got an arrow through the fleshy part of
his arm.
He sits up, glaring at the arrow in his arm.
“Christina, for these, we can pull them out here. You still send them to the infirmary to make sure no bones were nicked or broken,” Sebastian says, and I watch as he unscrews the end of the arrow, so he can remove the arrow nock. When he does, he hands it to me, just as Alpha Daniel jogs up.
“Take a deep breath, Ezra,” Sebastian says.
He does and Sebastian tells him to do it again. “When you exhale this time, I’m going to pull it out,” he says.
Ezra nods and Sebastian braces his hand on his shoulder. I do the same on his other shoulder. When he starts to ex- hale, Sebastian yanks the arrow out then puts pressure on the wound while Ezra curses a string of expletives.
“Christina, can you get him to the infirmary?” Sebastian asks me.
I’m about to agree, when Alpha Daniel says he’ll do it.
“I think I need a couple of stitches,” he says, gesturing to his leg that’s covered in blood. He helps Ezra up and they head off to the infirmary.
Sebastian turns off the machine then he and I climb up into the Beast and pull the arrows out of the targets. Once they are reloaded and the machine is back on, we walk back out and everyone looks at us.

288 ¡Vouchers
“Alpha Ezra is on his way to the infirmary. You still want a shot, Alpha Tyler?” he asks.
“Absolutely. I choose Alpha James. Human form,” he says. It’s a gutsy choice. He knows that James is adept on the Beast.
James begins bouncing on his feet. “Time to take this young Alpha to school.”
“I thought I was already here, Alpha,” Tyler says in a surprisingly teasing tone.
“So you are, Alpha Tyler,” he says as they walk up to the starting lineup. Sebastian nods at me and steps back.
“You’ve got this Tyler,” I say.
“Alpha James is going down,” he says confidently. Alpha James just laughs.
“I hope you can do it, kid,” he says.
“Competitors ready? GO!” I say when they’re set.

Once again, I turn and watch until I can’t see them any longer, then I listen. Alpha James doesn’t get nicked like Al- pha Daniel, but I hear that same sickening, soft thunk and I’m running before Tyler cries out and falls to the ground.
Tyler’s arrow is through his thigh.
“Shit that fucking hurts!” he yells.
I rush up beside him as Sebastian begins unscrewing the arrow nock. “You got as far as Ezra did,” I tell him.
“But not as far as you,” he says.
“There’s always tomorrow, Alpha,” I say, turning to Sebastian.
He keeps Tyler on his back, and I hold his hand while Sebastian rips the arrow out. Then he pulls his shirt off and ties it around Tyler’s thigh.
“Go get that stitched up. You’ll heal faster,” Sebastian says. I help Tyler up and wrap his arm over my shoulder.
“You’re with me, Tyler,” I tell him.
“Which challenge is the fire challenge?” he asks me.
“Fourth. I got past the arrows, but not the fire.”
“Want to tell me how you did it?” he asks me. I look at him and he’s smiling at me.
“How do you think I did it?” I ask him instead. Part of the Beast is using your intelligence so I don’t want to give him and answer I know he can figure out himself.
He’s quiet while we walk. We’re almost to the infirmary when he stops and looks at me.
“The targets?”
