Chapter 5
Blake winced as he got up, looking at Lucas’s hand on my waist with a sneer.
“Charlotte, now you’re bringing random guys to back you up? Not only are you out of control, but you’re completely shameless!”
Hannah put on her worried act again.
“Charlotte, you should make him leave. Blake’s gonna be really upset if you keep acting like this.”
He cheated first. He even had a damn baby with her.
But somehow I’m the one being unreasonable and immature? What kind of backwards logic is that?
I clenched my fists, staring Blake down.
“Get lost. I didn’t go after your family for the cheating because you saved my mom years ago. But that doesn’t mean I’m okay with it.”
Blake pulled Hannah closer, looking smug as hell.
“You’re gonna ‘go after‘ me? Charlotte, I’m giving you one last chance. Either you accept Hannah and we get married and live like a normal family.”
“Or we’re done and you stop bothering me.”
Blake was so sure I was still his little lapdog.
That he could snap his fingers and I’d come running.
Lucas kept his arm around my waist and said calmly:
“Blake, quit flattering yourself. The Reed and Montgomery families sent out wedding invitations yesterday.”
Blake grabbed his phone and checked the family group chat. It was blowing up with people asking what the hell was going on with our wedding.
He stared at me in disbelief, looking completely shocked.

Chapter 5
“Charlotte, you…”
I called over a sales associate and looked at Blake:
“Put the damaged dress on his tab.”
“Might teach him not to throw tantrums and embarrass himself.”
I’d lost interest. Changed out of the dress and left with Lucas.
Blake chased after us.
He grabbed my arm, teeth clenched.
“Charlotte, who said you could switch grooms?”
“Have you been screwing him this whole time?”
I yanked away from him and slapped him hard across the face.
“Blake, I’m not like you. I have standards.”
After we got in the car, Blake called me over and over.
I blocked his number. Out of sight, out of mind.
But the next day, he showed up at my family’s house with his mom and Hannah.
After Mom died, it was just me and Grandma.
Grandma has dementia and can’t remember much, but she remembers Blake saving her daughter.
When Blake told her I wanted to break up with him and marry someone else, she was so mad she
started hitting me with her cane.
Hannah piled on:
“Charlotte, Blake loves you so much. You dated for five years. How can you just call off the wedding
like that? How is that fair to him?”
Blake’s mom looked down her nose at me:

Chapter 5
“Exactly. My son marrying you is the best thing that’ll ever happen to you. Don’t be an idiot. You’re
almost thirty–it’s not gonna be easy finding someone else. And do you really think anyone’s gonna want you after you’ve been with my son for five years?”
I was so pissed I could feel my pulse in my temples.
Blake knew Grandma was sick, but he still brought these people here to manipulate her and twist
the truth.
He was absolutely evil.
When Blake saw me glaring at him, he put on this generous voice.
“I know you’re upset about Hannah. How about this–after we’re married, Hannah lives somewhere
else. I’ll only visit the kid once a week. Happy now?”
Before I could tell him to go to hell, Grandma frowned.
“Kid? What kid?”
Hannah beamed.
“Grandma, I had Blake’s baby!”
Blake’s mom took Grandma’s hand with a fake smile.
“Mrs. Montgomery, don’t worry. He’s my grandson too. When Charlotte has her own son, I’ll love them both equally.”
Grandma’s face went white. She completely changed from trying to make peace to grabbing her cane and beating the hell out of all of them.
“Get out! You piece of shit! You want my granddaughter to raise your bastard kid, be his stepmother? In your dreams!”
“I don’t care if you saved my daughter! You’re rotten inside! Get out of my house and never come
back!”
