Rachel noticed the impatience on his face but kept her composure, arching a perfectly shaped brow without a hint of emotion. Her voice remained calm.
“Is now really the time you’re suddenly in a rush to help me get my identity back?”
Henry frowned. “If you hadn’t made me so angry, I wouldn’t have forgotten something that important.”
Rachel let out a cold, mocking laugh.
Henry looked away. At this point, reinstating Rachel’s identity was his only option–because without it, he had no way of regaining control over her.
Thinking back to what Rachel had said at the hospital, he realized she was probably angry because he hadn’t taken care of the deregistration in time. Once her status was restored, it would be easy for him to do whatever he wanted.
He’d been too hasty before, not realizing this should have been handled first.
Since he had connections inside, all Rachel needed to do was sign and take a new photo for
her ID.
When everything was done, Henry put on a stern face. “Now that your identity is reinstated, let’s go home for a family dinner.”
Rachel noticed that Henry seemed smarter this time–he’d even changed his approach.
Feigning surprise, she asked, “But didn’t you say seven years ago that if I divorced Zane, I’d never be a part of the Freeman family again?”
Henry’s face hardened. “When did I ever say that?”
“Your wife did.”
Henry was briefly at a loss for words. Regaining his composure, he put on a generous facade.
“Let’s just put the past behind us. You’re finally back–let’s have a proper family reunion. I might’ve been a little harsh before, and as for your mother, she was only acting in the family’s best interest.”
“Oh? Is that so?” Rachel replied, her tone light, playing along.
“Come home with me.”

Of course, she would–after all, that house rightfully belonged to her. It was what her mother had left behind.
Now that her identity was reinstated, she could take things one step at a time.
She was also curious to see what Henry was plotting next.
When Rachel returned to the Freeman residence, the table was already set with a lavish spread, as if they’d been waiting for her all along.
Phoebe greeted her with a bright, welcoming smile, completely different from her attitude before. “Is everything taken care of?”
“Yes,” Rachel replied, as Henry was helped into the seat of honor.
Phoebe made her way over, wearing a look of heartfelt remorse.
“Rachel, everything that happened before was my fault. You went through so much out there, and I still treated you poorly. Now that you’re officially back in the family, I really hope we can start fresh. Can we?”
Rachel didn’t buy it for a second. She could see right through them—they were definitely up to something.
“Of course, let’s get along.”
A sly glint flashed in Phoebe’s eyes. “I knew you’d be understanding and sensible, Rachel. Come, sit down and eat. Ella, get Rachel some wine.”
Ella sat silently, her face already sour.
Hearing Phoebe’s words made her even more displeased, but after a sharp glare from Phoebe, she reluctantly picked up the wine bottle and poured Rachel a glass.
The next moment, Henry abruptly shifted the topic.
“As for Jeremy–I admit, I didn’t think that one through. Who would’ve guessed he’d make a move before the wedding? Luckily, Zane stepped in. Let’s just put that incident behind us.”
Zane helped? Rachel narrowed her eyes, deep in thought.
Henry continued, “Now that everyone knows you’re alive, what’s your plan? Are you really planning to keep running around out there?”
Rachel played along. “As long as I don’t starve.”
