Chapter 33 Here For You
Rachel watched Diego’s expression shift from pale to flushed, a flicker of amusement dancing in her eyes. A faint smirk tugged at her lips.

She looked away, unbothered, and calmly continued eating–composed, even as tension hung in the air.
Trying to save face after Zane’s comment, Diego forced a stiff smile and attempted to steer the conversation back on track.
But Zane didn’t let up. “What now? Gone from grief to a creepy funeral grin?”
Diego was completely thrown off.
“I–I didn’t handle things well, Mr. Jenkins,” he stammered. “I’m sorry.”
“Go back to your seat. Just looking at you kills my appetite.”
Diego gritted his teeth and had no choice but to return to his seat.
Everyone present could tell what Zane meant–he was standing up for Rachel.
As he sat down, Diego shot Rachel a glare. He had been unwilling to accept it before, but now his resentment only deepened.
This grudge, he would settle slowly in the future.
Rachel kept eating with quiet composure. Mason, seasoned in handling formal dinners like this, quickly picked up on the tension and shifted the mood with easy conversation, easing the earlier awkwardness.
When the timing felt right, Rachel poured herself another glass of wine, stood up, and turned to Zane. “Mr. Jenkins, I’m not feeling my best tonight, so allow me one final toast. I’m afraid I’ll have to excuse myself early.”
Mason’s smile faltered slightly–he hadn’t expected her to actually bow out so directly.
Zane gave her a long, unreadable look. “If Selena’s not feeling well, I’ll have Colin take you home.”
Rachel offered a polite smile. “No need to trouble anyone. It’s easy enough to grab a cab.”
With that, she raised her glass and finished the wine in one smooth motion.
But Zane didn’t back down.

“It’s not a fuss,” he said calmly. “After all, I’m here for you.”

The words weren’t exactly flirtatious, but they carried just enough weight to make the air feel a little off.
“Colin,” he added, without looking away, “drive Selena home.”
Rachel met his gaze, silent. Then, without a word, she rose, picked up her coat and bag, and walked out.
Colin followed behind her.
At the end of the hallway, Rachel came to a stop. She turned to Colin and said calmly, “No need to see me off. Mr. Jenkins knows I’m not going home.”
Colin didn’t respond. He simply watched as she stepped into the elevator and disappeared down to the first floor.
His thoughts were a mess.
Rachel had clearly never intended to go home, and Zane had known it all along.
For the first time in his role as an assistant, Colin felt a strange numbness in his hands.
Rachel arrived as promised at Jordan’s private room. Her appearance brought the laughter and chatter inside to an abrupt halt.
She saw two familiar faces sitting there and smiled warmly. “Benson, Lucy.”
Lucy Hartz jumped up the moment she saw Rachel and hugged her. “Selena, I’ve missed so much.”

Rachel hugged her back, laughing. “When Mr. Yates mentioned it, I guessed it might be you two. After all, James said you’d be passing through Guardia around this time. I can’t believe I -guessed right.”
Benson Watts propped his head on his hand and said, “I didn’t expect you to get to know Jordan so quickly, either.”
Sitting nearby, Jordan spoke gently, “It just goes to show it’s fate.”
Lucy pulled Rachel down to sit beside her. “I was going to call you as soon as I landed, but Jordan said he’d already made friends with you and wanted to set up this dinner. So, how’s everything going? All smooth?”
“Of course, everything’s going well.”

“That’s great. We can’t always be here, but if you ever need anything, you can always talk to Jordan. We’re all friends,” Lucy said.
Jordan smiled. “Even if you don’t say it, I’ll look after Rachel.”
Benson raised his wine glass to lighten the mood. “Alright, now that everyone’s here, let’s have a toast.”
As Rachel lifted her glass, her phone rang.
