Rachel pressed, “So, Mr. Jenkins, you specifically waited here just to remind me of this?”
He took a deep breath, unsettled by a phone call Rachel had just received. Trying to regain his composure, he said coldly, “Grandpa wants to speak with you. Make some time in the next couple of days to see him.”
Hearing this, Rachel lowered her gaze. “Alright, I understand. I’ll make time to visit Mr. Jenkins Senior. If there’s nothing else, Mr. Jenkins, I’ll see you out.”
Zane responded with a snort and turned to leave.
That evening, Rachel was about to leave to meet Jordan, but Mason stopped her as soon as she stepped out of her office. “Rachel, we’ve been waiting for you. Let’s go.”
“Go where?” she asked curiously.
“Mr. Jenkins is hosting a dinner tonight and has invited all of us. Didn’t I ask Rebecca to tell you?”
Rachel was a bit surprised.
After seeing her reaction, Mason paused and then asked, “Didn’t Rebecca tell you?”
Rachel shook her head and asked, “Mr. Jennings, what time is dinner?”
“It starts at 8:00 pm,” Mason replied, thinking Rachel might feel awkward because of her position. He tried to reassure her, “Rachel, since you’ve agreed to work with Mr. Jenkins, it shows you’re not hung up on the past. And come on–it’s the kickoff party. You’re the one holding everything together. You have to be there, right?”
Rachel didn’t mind at all. She calculated the time and realized she could delay her meeting with Jordan. “Where is Mr. Jenkins hosting the dinner?”
“It’s at Vertus.”
She thought that wasn’t too bad since Jordan had also arranged to meet her at Vertus. She could easily excuse herself from the dinner and meet him afterward.
“Let’s go.”

By the time they arrived at Vertus, Rachel had already explained things to Jordan, and he understood. She then followed Mason and the others to the private room.
She had no idea that Zane had already arrived but was still sitting in his car, refusing to go in.
That was, until Rachel and the others showed up.
Colin immediately said, “Mr. Jenkins, Mr. Jennings, and Ms. Freeman have arrived.”
As soon as he finished speaking, the sound of a door opening came from behind. Colin could clearly sense that the oppressive atmosphere that had been lingering suddenly lightened.
He found it all rather baffling.
Mason and the others had already taken their seats inside the private room. There were both men and women among them.
At that moment, someone said, “Selena, shouldn’t you be sitting next to the main seat?”
Rachel raised her brows, her expression unreadable, and fixed her gaze on the man who had spoken. He was Diego Fann, one of the team members Mason had assigned to her, and also the deputy team leader.
Throughout the day, Diego had covertly opposed Rachel several times, but she had always chosen to turn a blind eye.
Mason frowned, his tone stern. “Diego, what are you saying? Selena can sit wherever she likes, and Mr. Jenkins won’t mind.”
“Mr. Jenkins might not care, but Selena and Mr. Jenkins are quite close. Sitting together could help build rapport, which would benefit our future cooperation, right, Selena?” Diego said sarcastically.
Rachel replied with a smile that didn’t reach her eyes, “As the deputy team leader, you also have the right to sit next to the main seat. Mr. Fann, you should know your responsibilities, shouldn’t you?”
Diego’s face instantly turned ashen. One of the deputy leader’s primary duties was maintaining smooth communication and relationships between both sides.
He felt Rachel was treating him like a social liaison.
“You-”
“Watch your words and behavior,” Rachel cut him off, her face stern and her tone threatening.
