In the afternoon, Allie was armed to the teeth as she took a taxi to the private hospital with her little treasure with her.
She wore a pair of cat car headphones, carried a small messenger bag, and walked into the hospital with small strides. Nick’s voice came through the headphones. “Allic, remember to come out immediately after you’re done later. I’m waiting for you across the street, okay?”
“No problem, Nick.”
Following the address given by her brother, Allie took the elevator up and found the ward where Henry was staying.
“Nick, I’ve reached.”
“Wait.”
Less than a minute after Nick said that, under his control, all the lights on the floor Allie was on were turned off and the computer at the nurse’s station showed a bunch of garbled code.
Chaos ensued in an instant.
Taking advantage of the confusion, Allie retrieved the box that contained the snake from her messenger bag and threw it into Henry’s ward.
Then she ran towards the emergency exit corridor while giggling.
“Nick, I’m done.”
“Okay, I’m waiting for you.”
Allie supported herself against the wall and quickly descended the stairs.
Just as she turned a corner, she bumped directly into someone’s arms. She ended up on her behind on the floor with a yelp.
“Did you hurt yourself?”
Before Allie could look up, she saw a pair of elderly hands holding her up from under her armpits and helping her up.
She looked up.
Her eyes lit up. Wasn’t this Great–Grandpa? She heard from her brother that when her mother was in the Jenkins family, only Great–Grandpa was kind to her.

Allie, what happened?” Nick asked over the headphones.
Allie simply turned off her headphones and shook her head obediently, “I’m fine, Great- Grandpa. I’m sorry for accidentally bumping into you.”
Kent was very surprised when he heard her address him that way. When he looked into the girl’s eyes, he had a strange misconception. He thought he was looking at his granddaughter- in–law.
He smiled kindly and asked, “Why do you call me Great–Grandpa?”
“You look older than a Grandpa would be,” Allie replied.
“Haha, that makes sense. Where are your parents?” Kent asked.
“They’re downstairs.” Allie suddenly had a clever idea and her eyes sparkled. “Great–Grandpa, I’m a little afraid of the stairs. Can you accompany me downstairs?”
The more Kent looked at this child, the more he liked her. “Sure, Great–Grandpa will hold your hand and go down with you.”
Nick was right. Great–Grandpa is a really good person, Allie thought to herself.
“What’s your name?”
“Alyssa Freeman. My nickname is Allie.”
Freeman?
Kent was very surprised. It was such a coincidence.
“Why aren’t your parents with you? Are they letting you roam around alone?”
“I don’t have a father. He abandoned my mother when she was pregnant,” Allie replied.
“What?” Kent was both shocked and angry when he heard this. Realizing that he overreacted, he smiled kindly and said, “Your mother must love you very much, right?”
“Of course.”
Kent took the child to the hospital entrance but did not see her mother. “Allie, where is your mother?”
“Mommy is at the store next to the street. Goodbye, Great–Grandpa.” Allie let go of Kent’s hand and jogged out while waving goodbye to him.
Kent felt a bit reluctant to let her go. He had just met her, but he felt a strong sense of

closeness to the child. He stood at the entrance for a long time until the steward came looking for him.
Mr. Jenkins, you really scared me to death. You were just doing your stair exercises. Why did you disappear?”
Kent looked at the disappearing silhouette of the little girl for a long time before coming back to his senses. He kept feeling that the child looked a lot like Rachel, and it was so coincidental that her surname was also Freeman. “Zachary, find a way for me to find out the identity of a person. I need to know who she is as soon as possible.”
