Rachel Freeman sat on the bed wrapped in a blanket. A divorce agreement was thrown on her face. Seeing the two bold words on the paper, she clenched the blanket tightly.
At that moment, Zane Jenkins, standing at the foot of the bed, had a dark and sullen face. He quickly put on his clothes, feeling disgusted toward the woman on the bed. He didn’t care the slightest that she was the woman he had been intimate with last night..
“Zane, I didn’t mess with the wine last night or set you up,” Rachel said firmly. Her eyes were brimmed with tears as she held back her grievances and explained to him.
“Whether you set me up or not doesn’t matter anymore. Your goal has been achieved,” Zane said, looking at her sideways. “But Rachel, don’t think that we won’t divorce just because we had sex.”
Rachel knew that the reason she could be married to Zane for two years was simply because both of their mothers had set up a marriage arrangement. For the past two years, they appeared as a loving couple in public, but behind closed doors, they were probably even more distant than strangers.
Rachel endured it all because, after her mother’s death, the Freeman family became a place where she no longer belonged. She could only rely on the Jenkin family to maintain her – position in the Freeman family. Even if Zane’s heart was not with her, it didn’t matter.
She thought that was how her life would be, but she never expected that the woman Zane loved the most would return. What awaited her was divorce–and becoming the laughingstock of the entire social circle.
Zane showed no emotions. “Sign the agreement. Make sure I don’t see any trace of your belongings left in my house before nightfall. If you try to play games with me, I’ll make you regret your stubbornness.”
With those final harsh words, he turned and left without hesitation. Just like that, she was forced to sign the agreement and was then driven out.
An hour later at the Freeman residence, not only was she denied entry, but she was even driven out. Her luggage was mercilessly tossed out after her.
Her stepmother, the current/Mrs. Freeman, stood at the door with her arms crossed. She looked down at Rachel who was picking up her clothes on the ground.
With a mocking tone, she said, “Rachel, don’t blame me for being heartless. It’s your own fault for being abandoned by Zane, making the Freeman family the laughingstock of the

Upon hearing this, Rachel stood up immediately. “Dad is in the hospital? Which hospital is he in?”
“Do you think Henry would want to see you now? He thought you could bring some fame to the Freeman family by doing a good job as Zane’s wife. Who would’ve thought you’d be so useless.” Mrs. Freeman sneered, her words dripping with mockery.
Rachel bit her lip. Her heart had a jumble of feelings.
“Now everyone in Guardia knows that Zane abandoned you for another woman. Rachel, as a woman to woman, the best way to keep a man is by giving birth to a child. Look at you–two years, and no single sign of a baby. No wonder Zane treats you like this!”
Was this what she wanted? She had wanted to have a child, but Zane never gave her the chance. Facing the relentless sarcasm from her stepmother, she remained indifferent. Then, she picked up her luggage once again and tried to go inside.
