“For a whole month, without your stunning face, my days were so dull and colorless.”
She couldn’t help but go on with her complaints. “People were saying all sorts of things. Some said your health was failing, or that you had a falling–out with Madam Grace and weren’t coming back…
“Some even said you’d eloped with someone… there were rumors flying around, all kinds of them.”
By the end, her voice had grown quieter and quieter.
Because only then did she suddenly realize that Lucas was still standing right there.
And she’d just claimed, right in front of him, that Aurora had eloped with someone else.

“Look at me, I’m perfectly fine, aren’t I? So why bother dwelling on all that nonsense?”
The receptionist, seeing Aurora so radiant and full of energy, gave a firm nod. “Alright, got it.
“Don’t worry, Miss Aurora. I’ll guard the front desk with my life. You can leave the image of this lobby to me. I’ve got it covered.”
Aurora patted her on the shoulder with mock solemnity. “That’s the spirit, Mandy. I believe in you!
“Now go ahead and keep busy. I need to head up to the office.”
The receptionist watched her leave, calling out, “Alright, got it!”
As she stared at the pair walking side by side, her heart filled with envy.
